But not that brilliant. Not at all, actually.

Hmmm. Though it was ok. Should have been better for a comeback single after 28 years though.

Well, it's not knocked me out on first listen, but then again it's a long way from being crap. The vocals seem a little distant / weak compared with previous stuff. It's certainly Ultravox though - it's good to hear some old trademarks (heard Billy got his ARP Odyssey going again) yet it not sounding out of place in 2012.

Looking forward to hearing more in May, or before with a bit of promo luck.

Far weaker than the recent OMD stuff. Where's the chorus?

hmmm not bad, a tad too repetitious but has a sort of big uplifting quality to it. on a proper sound system like I have in my truck this would sound pretty awesome.agree about the chorus. I never understand this thing where some bands come up with a nice piece of music and leave out a chorus.but I kinda like this thanks for posting.

The vocals are strangely weak. Are we sure that this is the classic line-up?

EDIT: Heard it a couple of times now and I quite like it.

I don't like it much although it is rather typical Ultravox/MIdge Ure. I saw Midge Ure
in 2010 with Schiller in concert.

It's funny how some groups age well and sound better than they did years ago Ultravox have not.The song is ok but not Brilliant!.
They make a little go along way.. very Minimal but Fundamental.

It's a grower for me, but I don't think it's ever going to tear up the chart.

Do you think they will play it on their forthcoming tour, Steve?

I think it's bound to be, being a single and all that.

Still can't get my head around the vocals being so weak. Whoever mixed this got the vocals very wrong - they're far too tucked behind the music. It sounds almost like one of those karaoke effects on certain hi-fi's to deliberately hide the vocals.

For anyone interested in them enough to think about seeing them on tour, I'd thoroughly recommend it. I'm not a massive gig-go-er, but I've seen a few bands live now and considering until 2009 they hadn't played a note together for 24 or 25 years it was like they'd never been away. They were fantastic and it was the best live performance I've been to bar none.

I saw them here in Helsinki in August 2010 and while it was a very good gig, they spoiled some songs with pointless guitar squealaing that was not to be heard on the original albums. Nevertheless, I will be purchasing Brilliant, and I hope it will be a better album than OMD's lukewarm History Of Modern.
