Not my cup of tea at all. Far too much overwrought self-important emoting compensating for the lack of a tune.

It's no Wonderful Life, that's for sure. In fact, it's no Sunday or Better Than Love for that matter.

I liked some of their first album, but this just sounds pompous, self-indulgent, and thoroughly fake.

I loved Happiness but this new song has put me off them big time :(. I really hope it's not representative of the new album as it's not the kind of stuff I like listening to. The alarm bells started ringing for me earlier this year when they mentioned in interviews that the next album would have more guitars and would be darker. I've seen them live many times all over Europe -they're actually a great live band. I've also met them on numerous occasions and they are really nice guys. However, this new track is awful. I'm so disappointed :(

There's a ridiculous teaser video as well for the album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baWthtRhtnY.

I was put off my the saccharine soppiness of most of Happiness, even though the tunes and production were consistently good. So the more I listen to this, the more I like it: at least it's not sappy. And Theo avoids the boyband vocal mannerisms that were too prominent in Happiness.

I'm sure though that this more like a "WTF" introduction to the album than properly representative of it as a whole.

Not bad.

People on youtube complain about it sounding like dubstep. I don't think that's true at all. It's more industrial, like Nine Inch Nails on the "Downward Spiral" album.

Well, the harshest dubstep is pretty close to updated industrial, so I can understand the comparison. And especially around the second chorus there are some dubstep sounds.

That's a bit like saying that something is "techno" because there's a hard synth sound somewhere. Stylistically this song is far more industrial than dubstep. The chorus has a driving 4/4 rhythm with action on all four beats. It's not even remotely dubstep. That schreeching synth is as much a staple of industrial as dubstep. There's no wobbling, cut-up effects or true half beat rhythms going on.

Here's another new song. Very Coldplay, especially Princess Of China.

Oops, forgot the link. Thanks Drico for adding it. I prefer The Road by a long mile.

i think you are talking about brostep, there are lots of different strands within dubstep.

Thank god someone said this before I had to. Dubstep has become as horribly defamed by its commercial offspring as techno did when 2 Unlimited purloined the name back in the bad old days.

Just listen to some Burial (or anyone else signed to Hyperdub for that matter) for an example of what it used to mean before the TV-advertising, advert and movie-trailer soundtracking shitsters got their coke-stained hands on the latest buzz-turd.
