Before anybody thinks of taking the front page of the Mail to be even remotely accurate about people on 'welfare' (and I know some people will), if you want to see a REAL product of 'welfare Britain', look at me. My parents were unemployed when I was young, my sister rightly needed disability allowance, I got free school meals. I also got a chance to get out of my village, go to university, get a good job and pay taxes back into the system.
Whatever system you invent, unscrupulous people will try to scam it at every level. What you do is try to minimise that scamming. What you don't do is stop helping the genuinely needy just to cut off the supply to the lowest level scammers.

Good article that, I have to say, the bottom line here is that tax evasion is a massive problem and bigger than people cheating welfare and that greedy landlords are probably the biggest problem we have when it comes to housing benefit payments being so high. The whole "buy to rent" culture is also a disgrace, greed at it's worst, should not be allowed, especially when so many ex council houses are used in this way. But that is a whole new topic to be fair and is a bit more complicated than that of course.
Also I currently get housing benefit for a council bedsit which is £170 a week (£680 a month!!). Pathetic money but not my fault, I was housed here and had no choice at the end of the day. A good example of the problem with high prices though. Oh and I am in Guildford which is quite an expensive place but still shouldn't be that high, not in a million years, I rented a two bedroom flat near the centre of Nantes in France for less than £500 a few years back. But that is France where lots of affordable appartements and homes are built all the time with strict laws from local council's and governments, quite different to this ridiculous "Luxury home" culture we have here in Britain. Once again it's pure greed, plain and simple.

I really try my best to stay out of arguments like this, but the welfare / murderer thing going on right now is truly, truly disgusting. YFU's picture above has it right.
Why is it disgusting? Without eugenics, this country is f*cked. This violent criminal was allowed to have seventeen children at the expense of the state. He even had a full-size snooker table ffs!!!!! Still as long as New Labour had his vote.....
