Breakfast TV interview 1985- is this their first?

Just found this delightful interview with the gorgeous Selena Scott, recorded just as they were going into the studios to record Please. Hard to believe there was ever a time when there was NO Pet Shop Boys album.

I wonder if this is their first proper UK tv interview...

Neil: hasn't changed
Chris: he's way less nervous and femmy than back then
The interviewer: total hots for her!
I sincerely *love* Disco 2 and listen to it straight through regularly.

Oh, yes, the young Selina Scott. Marvelous. She later presented The Clothes Show, for which "In the Night" was used as the theme.

Chris is so sheepish when he gets asked how they met.

I wonder how true that story really is :)

Cool video, thanks. I'm struck by how understatedly stylish PSB look, considering it was 1985. When so many pop stars were running around looking like costumed clowns, or at the very least, in styles that look dated to our eyes. The 80's weren't great fashion wise in retrospect, but the Boys here look kind of timeless, not dated. (Or cool again?- Rihanna was wearing head to toe BOY London gear recently.)

Don't know Selina Scott, but she was an intelligent interviewer here, and yes quite pretty. She seemed really interested in N & C, which is a plus in an interview.

Has anyone heard the original version of West End Girls that Neil talks about? Is it very different to what we have on the album now?

Well could you tell me the official name of this original mix of the song so I'd know if I have heard it or not. I'm not sure I have.

Must have heard this hundreds of times in 1984-85 on KROQ, took me years to get used to the hit version

The tour sounds fun - I wonder if those video clips ever made it into the wide world?
