Re: Beautiful People
Hi Amanda- I like your work. Is that Daphne Guinness on one of your prints? God, I love her. She's inspirational.
I went to an art school with a well-regarded fashion department (Parsons NYC) and I know St. Martin's is equally rigorous and prestigious. And the fashion students I knew were so incredibly hard-working. Keep doing great work! I know it's not easy, I admire your initiative and drive, of course I voted for you. Keep at it dear. I think you're talented.

Thanks but no thanks. The least you could do is get some more posts under your belt rather than spam us. We may love PSB but we also have taste. Why don't you ask your old school mates to vote? Or hand out some flyers outside McDonalds?BeautifulPeople wrote:Hello everyone, I hope you are well.
Basically my name is Amanda, I am a huge Pet Shop Boys fan, brought up with them with my parents and then gone on to buy their music and go to their concerts. When I interned in one of the top couture fashion houses in Paris we would dance around the studio all day to Pet Shop Boys - I converted them....lol.
I actually come from an area in County Durham (working class kid) where Neil Tennant used to live and I was asked to show him around the local comprehensive school which he kindly donated to.
Anyhow I am a recently graduated fashion designer from Central Saint Martins, and I wanted to create a collection and incorporate my love of PSB so therefore I titled it Beautiful People and the soundtrack to my internal show was PSB , please see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM21byTrHmA
My collection is all hand drawn.
Anyhow I am in a competition for Vogue, and I would love it if you could all vote for me, and also for my collection called Beautiful People

This would be amazing if you could help me to push this to number one, and I ask all you PSB fans to please take the couple of minutes to vote. One day I hope to create stage garments for Pet Shop Boys, I think one of my hand drawings down a long black with swarovski would look amazing.
Please all believe and push this to top and lets get Beautiful People not only top of music but fashion.
I thank you for your time

I don't think this is spam, regardless of how recently Amanda registered. She explained that she is a PSB fan, and I believe her, and she's showing us her creative work, some things that she's made that she no doubt worked hard on. She's merely aking us to have a look, vote for her if we want, that's all. Not selling anything. I admire her initiative , starting out in a competitive creative industry. Good for her. Not spam, and it's not like the Off-Topic section is overflowing with scintillating topics. Good luck to Amanda.

Agreed. Also Amanda asked really nicely, and that was a nasty thing to say...Deschanel wrote:I don't think this is spam, regardless of how recently Amanda registered. Re: Beautiful People
I like fashion and working class heroes...I also go to public lectures at CSM.... my mate did fashion there years ago. I voted for you.
Hello my name is Neil Tennant and I'm Chris Lowe and we're of the Pet Shop Boys.
Re: Beautiful People
I often thought that John Lennon lyric
"a working class hero is something to be" should have been followed by
"I wrote this in my mansion in Surrey".
A rather patronisng song, fab macca was and the others were more working class. At Uni i was mates with quite a few fashion students, great nights and times with them. Great video, clothes and all the best for your future career.

Still waiting to hear the Adam Freeland, Manhattan Clique and Axwell mixes of Integral.

Re: Beautiful People
Yeah. The fashion students at my art school worked incredibly hard, and the hardest-working of them all were "working class", though we tend not to use that term here much. Many of them first-generation East Asian-Americans, whose parents didn't speak much English and lived in Queens. I remember times where it would be 11pm on a Friday night and I'd be dying to go meet my friends at our bar, and these kids would still be working their asses off, in the studios or drawing in the library, until the place closed and they'd take the subway home to Queens. Their incredibly strong work ethic and drive made me feel spoilt and lazy in comparison. I had my own apt. in Greenwich Village, loved smoking pot then..I was so lucky. These kids- Chinese, Korean mostly- had no such luxuries, no time for pleasure. They worked and worked. Took the subway home and then started it again the next day, all day. They didn't take their expensive education at a prestigious art school for granted. (The way I regrettably sorta did. Being in NYC in your very early 20's , there was a world of distracting and exhilarating adventure to be had. ). These kids worked so hard, and I have no doubt they went on to good jobs in fashion, still a huge industry in NYC. So when Michelle Obama wears something by Alexander Wang, I just know he was one of those hardworking kids at my school. (He was.) Fashion is stilla a big business, it is not trivial. And the drive and energy and creativity that keeps it going is from working -class people aspriring to join that world, and working so hard to get there.
