BluRay/DVD Recorders with HDD

I have two Panasonic recorders, with HDD and DVD-R capabilities. I usually record tv programmes on the HDD then edit and transfer them to DVD-R (Verbatim).
One of the older machines is about to die and I must get a new one. I want to remain with Panasonic, and I guess I would go for the DRM whatever 735 or 835.
Does anyone own one of these two machines? I have read the instruction manual online and there doesn't seem to be too much difference in operations between my older models.
Just one questions: can you still record to DVD-R from the HDD, or can you only record to Blu-Ray recordable discs? Are BluRay R the HD correspondent of DVD-R? Are BluRay-RE the correspondent of DVD-Rewritable?
