Oh come on, it's a simple question, easy to answer, why is it such a problem for you? No need to over react, I'm only asking a question. I think you fear telling the truth sometimes for fear of reprisals, you have a right to your opinion so why not just give it? I don't care about what people say and think about me as nobody on here knows me, why do you care? Sorry but it's strange to me.raggatwin wrote:JSDOUVRES wrote:Obviously not, raggatwin are you ever going to give a straight answer? Is it right that foreign "investors" are pushing British people out of the housing market yes or no?raggatwin wrote:Again, you know nothing about the housing market or how economics works..even from a right wing perspective. What was the last topic you posted on the psb related forum...
And stop changing the subject, honestly this is getting tiring now. You see if you believe in workers rights as you passionately do, do you not also believe in workers basic rights to a home in the country they live and work? Obviously that it seems that that doesn't fit your views and world economics seem more important to you but I'd like to know your opinion. You seem to always answer every difficult question with a question yourself or an effort to change the subject. This question really is not a difficult one, well it shouldn't be anyway. If you believe that nobody has the right to a home here and that foreign investors are doing a fair and acceptable thing then fine, but just say it. That is all I ask and then we can move on. Even the people buying the homes here agreed it was unfair to British buyers, but it seems not you. And please, stop trying to be abusive just because we have different political views, that's just silly now isn't it?
It's called socratic teaching and learning.
After 11 long years ive had enough of this forum.
Good night and thank you.

It's very frustrating when you passionately believe you are 'right' about something and others don't agree. I imagine you feel the same when no one jumps to condemn the subject of one of your many anti-immigrant press releases.JSDOUVRES wrote:Oh come on, it's a simple question, easy to answer, why is it such a problem for you? Erm, you mean anti UNCONTROLLED immigration posts, the way you like to put it is that I am totally anti immigration which is completely false and is something that really is frustrating. And it is not a small detail as I am sure you are aware. Like I have said before, the fact that there are no controls I find absolutely astounding, but maybe that's just me James, although the current state of the nation kind of backs me up with schools full to the brim, homes hard to come by and our hospitals struggling with numbers, but hey, at least I am happy to talk about it whether I am passionate or not about it. And anyway, if raggatwin is passionate about it then why does he just not tell me he sees the current situation as totally fine and normal. Not that difficult you know......james23_uk wrote:It's very frustrating when you passionately believe you are 'right' about something and others don't agree. Re: The Great Property Race Scandal
That doesn't make sense.
Why would anyone be buying property and then leaving it vacant rather then renting it ?

Re: The Great Property Race Scandal
I suppose it's like buying a record, if you never play it it is worth more, but I agree, it is strange, perhaps there is more to it, I have no idea, all I know is that it is going on around the world, certainly in London and Paris that I know of well and no doubt many other places. Anyway, it is wrong and must be stopped, raggatwin sees it as an acceptable part of the global economy but I see it as an utter disgrace. But that is what Britain is becoming, the whore of the world, look what's happened with our football clubs used by rich Russians and Arabs etc as some kind of toy. This will only get worse before better but I see a bleak future here if this carry's on and the only losers will be the British people.gregf wrote:That doesn't make sense.

Unlike our absent friend, you don't understand the property market.JSDOUVRES wrote:raggatwin sees it as an acceptable part of the global economy but I see it as an utter disgrace.
If there are x number of properties and x number of people, then everybody can have a property.
If one then adds y number of people, through mass immigration for instance, but the number of properties does not increase then there is a shortfall of properties. There are x+y number of people but only x number of properties.
If one then leaves z number of properties empty then there are x+y number of people and x-z number of properties.
But raggatwin's theorem states that x+y=x-z because all immigrants are wonderful, hard-working individuals and all native Brits lazy, racist scumbags.

Stan: I looked through your stupid book! It's five hundred and forty pages of ripping on Wendy and calling her a slut!
Cartman: I do not directly say she's a slut!
Stan: "Wendy Testaburger has proven time and time again that she will do anything to pleasure her vagina. Whether it is the school football team or the janitors on their break, Wendy spends her time as president on her knees or on her back taking the old in-out for hours on end"!
Cartman: You didn't read the rest, dude.
Stan: "Or does she?"
Cartman: "Or does she?" See, that's a question. I'm asking questions, Stan.
Cartman: But hey, I'm just a normal kid, like you, except that I ask questions. And because I'm brave enough to ask questions, I come under scrutiny. Is Wendy using your lunch money to buy heroin? Probably not, but how can we know? I don't want my lunch money going to drugs! Who's taking these drugs? What would be the point? I'm asking questions!

Re: The Great Property Race Scandal
Because it's billionaires parking their money in safe Western democracies, rather than their volatile and unstable home countries where 95% of them came by their billions by shady and exploitative or even criminal means. Some Russian kleptocrat oligarch bought his 24 year old daughter an $85 million apartment in Manhattan (15 Central Park West). It's money-laundering, and it's boggling. (I'd say the very high end of the completely unregulated art market fits this too. If someone buys a painting for $80 million, believe me, it's not hanging on their wall, it's in a vault in Switzerland. It's getting money out of their home country, laundering it into something, "respectable" like art. It gives cachet and access to social circles as well, for people who were thugs and paupers in a former life.)gregf wrote:That doesn't make sense.

Foreign billionaires don't give a shit about money and would never do something like, "rent it out". They have more money than one could spend in a dozen lifetimes. So yeah, places like One Hyde Park in London (which I think is a hideous, alienating and sinister building) is not only grotesquely expensive, but also empty most of the time. Sme with lots of luxury buildings in Manhattan. Nobody's home. In NYC the very rich and the very poor- or even just working or middle class- used to rub elbows all the time. This is less and less the case, you have to be a millionaire to live in Manhattan now. It's all pretty depressing. But my point is my first sentence.
Ps. Hey Greg! Hope you are doing well, kind man.

Re: The Great Property Race Scandal
This happens everywhere!
Even in Mumbai, LOTS of apartments (i don't have a source for the exact number), but lots of non-resident indians pump in their $$$ and buy loads of properties, leave it unoccupied for 20-30 years even.
a) increases rents for us normal folk due to lack of supply, as these apartments are not rented out
b) inable to buy an apartment here because even a teeny 500 sq.ft apartment in an average locality will set me back 15 years complete salary! (and I happen to earn decently well!)
And add the problem of black money transactions, and i've just given up on being able to own a home in this city.
Waiting for the next economic crash, which i hope will be due to real estate.

Re: The Great Property Race Scandal
Sad that this happens there as well, I still don't agree with raggatwins view that it is an important part of the worlds economy or whatever he said (something along those lines), surely basic human rights come before that don't they? And anyway, only the rich profit from such a thing and it is not just morally wrong but an absolute disgrace as well. If there were lots of property available to everybody from every walk of life then fine, but that is simply not the case. Everybody deserves a chance to own a home but some people don't look at it that way which is very scary and sad.Vince wrote:This happens everywhere!
