Please read - New OT sub forum now open

#1 Post by StevePSB »

After much discussion, we have created a separate sub forum for Off Topic posts covering contentious subjects such as politics and religion.

This sub-forum is opt in only, so those who want to discuss these subjects can do so, whilst it will remain invisible to those who would rather not participate in them or see them. Any threads of a contentious nature posted in the main OT forum will be moved by forum staff into the OT2 sub forum.

The OT2 sub forum is still governed by the main forum rules.

Those wishing to join this sub forum please register your wish to participate below. If you do not register and subsequently post new threads in the main OT section that we move then you will no longer be able to see or participate in your thread.

Thank you. :)

This new sub-forum has now been created and all those who requested to join have been included in the member list. Please inform me if you are a member and have any access or posting issues.

As of now, any religious, political or otherwise contentious thread created in this forum will be moved to the new OT sub forum.

Anyone else wanting to join in, please post below.

Thanks!

:) I agree, actually.
So, is this subforum invisible to users without access?

I think it's fair to say that you can answer that question yourself. ;)

Ah, so you've been in the new sub-forum then.

Greetings,

Suggestion for the admin... if you create a "group" called OT2, and then connect the access rights to it, you can allow people to opt in and opt out of the OT2 easily via the Control Panel and without manual intervention.

Speaking of opt-out, it also gives you the possibility of flipping the dynamic and giving people access to that section by default, and putting the onus on people to opt out of it. I've used this model myself, and it works well, although it did show to me that some people want to simply complain, rather than exercise a bit of sense restraint and opt out of a section that doesn't interest them. Pros and cons....

Will I be able to talk about my rats there, without mean people yelling at me to "shut up about your rats already!"? ;-)
