New album recommendations

Thought I'd share some recent albums I liked for my fellow PSB fans, hopefully it helps you discover some you like.

I've been listening to Jimmy Somerville's 'Homage' the most lately, a strong album with no weak track, I think Some Wonder is one of the best songs this year so far:



Giorgio Moroder just released a new album 'Déjà Vu' and it's pretty good, only a couple weak songs. It's flavoured by the (horrible) current EDM scene, but it has enough disco elements and strong songwriting to get a solid thumbs up from me.



An interesting find for me was Roman à Clef's 'Abandonware', good quality indie pop/rock. Plus it has PSB in the title.



Melody Gardot's Preacherman is one of my favourite songs so far this year, though the album is patchy:



There was a compilation album released last year called 'Music For Dreams The Sunset Sessions 2' by Kenneth Bager, which has tons of fantastic lesser-known tracks. Really worth checking out, here's an example of what's on it:

Blur - The Magic Whip

I have high hopes for Mew's "+-" (plus minus) album but alas, it's stuck on back-order.

Likewise! ... The Magic Whip excels in its most melancholy moments. Brandon is a bit more patchy - the album starts off strong but it has a few duffers on it.

Also just beginning to really love the Jamie XX In Colour album, Some of it reminds me of The Orb ... muted bass lines, dreamy overdubbed vocals ... worth spinning it up a few times.

The Mew album (when it finally arrived!) turned out to be pretty awesome. Not as complex as the past two albums, but very beautiful and engaging nonetheless.
