Popstar Sophie Ellis Bextor has given birth to a baby boy, a spokeswoman for the singer said.
Sonny, Sophie's first child, was delivered eight weeks early by caesarean section after doctors discovered she was suffering from pre-eclampsia earlier in the week.
Pre-eclampsia is a serious complication during pregnancy marked by dangerously high blood pressure.
Sonny's weight was not disclosed.
In a statement, the spokeswoman said: "We are delighted to announce Sophie Ellis Bextor gave birth to a baby boy, Sonny, this morning.
"Sophie had a Caesarean after doctors discovered earlier in the week that she was suffering from pre-eclampsia. As is normal with this condition, the baby was delivered as soon as possible, in Sophie's case eight weeks early.
"Mother and baby are now doing well although the baby will remain in hospital for a few weeks. Sophie and her partner Richard Jones are absolutely delighted with their new arrival."
Sophie fell pregnant only a month after she began dating musician Richard.
The singer, whose hits include Murder on the Dancefloor and Groovejet (If This Ain't Love), her number one with Spiller, said the baby was planned.
"We talked about starting a family because we just knew it was right," Sophie said recently.
"If the baby hadn't been planned we would have taken precautions. What caught us out was how quickly it happened. I've always wanted to be a mum, but I've got friends who have struggled to conceive.
"So I thought it might take a year or so for anything to happen. This sounds like a cliche but every baby is a little bit of a miracle. Ours has just come along quicker than expected.
"We love each other, we're devoted to one another and this baby will be surrounded by love."
Sophie is the daughter of former Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis.

As for Ms Ellis-Bextor, she's OK but a tad overrated in my opinion. Still, I'd be interested if anything does come of that proposed collaboration with our boys.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree on that then. I like Murder On The Dancefloor but nothing much else from her has done a great deal for me. Just my opinion of course!
