Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning.

Some might argue that the current UK government wasn’t elected at all!Neilatrone wrote: Tue 21 Mar 2017, 8:14 pmNot wanting to get into politics too much on this board but the UK Government was not elected on a Brexit mandate so it could have noted the result as advisory. Technically speaking.

The march feels like 10,000 people stamping their feet and saying 'it's not fair.'
Everyone knew what we were voting for. I was in two minds, but we have voted to leave and the EU is a sinking ship, so it's probably best that we do.

To gauge public opinion. The government is not legally required to act on it. The problem is not having a written constitution in this country. If we did there wouldn't be a fraction of the chaos and confusion there has been.TallThinMan wrote: Tue 21 Mar 2017, 7:04 pmNot sure what you imagined was going to happen? Anyway at least "we got our country back" which as AA Gill said means "snorting a line of that most pernicious and debilitating Little English drug, nostalgia"

I have no time for AA Gill's writing, but you're right about the constitution - the UK needs a specific constitutional document.

Sorry, Only advisory? Are you sure about that? This is the text sent out from the government in it's referendum leaflet prior to the vote. As you can see, it was clearly never "advisory", well, perhaps to some of the people that didn't get the result they wanted afterwards it was..... Anyway, it will be happen no matter how many undemocratic idiots march, and it will be the best thing to happen to the UK for many years to come!daveid wrote: Tue 21 Mar 2017, 6:33 pmSo did the leavers...
Although I voted to stay I don't think a march is going to help other than draw attention to some of the issues.
A generation and a half of anti - European propaganda from the Murdoch press will take more than a few marches to eradicate.

Sorry I'm not British but the result of the referendum was "advisory" in law. The UK Government in advance decided to pre-empt whatever result would happen.JSDOUVRES wrote: Tue 21 Mar 2017, 10:12 pmSorry, Only advisory? Are you sure about that? Also, I wouldn't agree that anyone taking part in a march is "undemocratic", that wouldn't make sense!

1) N and C can express whatever they want.
2) It's a Pet Text. You know well, a Pet Text is not only about PSB like a pop duo, it's about their own lives too (a bit more personal).
3) When they express their opinion about sexual freedom, ID, war and many other things. There is no problem about that. What's wrong now?
4) Many of their songs and projects have a big political influence. They show their political thoughts on them.
5) Apart from that, we know pretty well they were supporting people like Obama (there is a pic of Neil with a Obama's poster) and Tony Blair (before they changed their opinions because of the Gulf War) and they were against Bush ("I'm with Stupid) and Trump.
6) Of course, Neil and Chris respect the results of the referendum but it doesn't mean they are not able to express their disagree anymore. Even more when Brexit won with a narrow margin. Many lies were told by the press and tabloids to support Brexit.
7) It's funny to see how many fans were supporting PSB when they used to talk about politics before. What happens now?. I understand their points of view because they are world citizens. They feel British but they have been travelling around the world for ages. They don't understand why British people are not going to be part of the European Union anymore.

Re: Pet Shop Boys say NO to Brexit
So marching and protesting against a democratic process and result is democratic in itself is it? I would call it the exact opposite personally but each to their own.Neilatrone wrote: Tue 21 Mar 2017, 10:57 pmSorry I'm not British but the result of the referendum was "advisory" in law. And this referendum was not advisory, the government clearly stated on many occasions prior to it taking place that they would implement the result which is exactly what they are doing. About time people accepted that and stopped the whining.
Democracy is seriously under threat from the far left whom have a serious problem when things don't go their way, simply because they are so convinced they hold some kind of "moral high ground" all the time when the opposite is true. Pathetic. We even have anti Trump protests here in the UK! Yet little or nothing against the worlds biggest dictators and human rights violators. Hypocrisy at it's best all over and quite shameful. I'd love to have been in London this weekend for a good laugh but am busy unfortunately!

Re: Pet Shop Boys say NO to Brexit
Just quickly please - point 1, if it's undemocratic then they would sack the Houses of Parliament and install a new Government to overturn the decision. Peaceful protest is the purest democratic pursuit (try it in North Korea for example). Point 2, you are incorrect about advisory. On your last point I agree with a lot you are saying but we could debate this for days - back to the music!JSDOUVRES wrote: Tue 21 Mar 2017, 11:32 pm So marching and protesting against a democratic process and result is democratic in itself is it? Re: Pet Shop Boys say NO to Brexit
They're all very worried about democracy and their country being dictated to by the EU yet have no issue with Scotland and Northern Ireland democratically voting to stay in the EU but having their choice taken away by England and Wales voters. The EU can't dictate to its member countries, yet the UK can.

Not the UK, though, if Scotland leaves. And it will. And take its oil with it.Tom Angel wrote: Tue 21 Mar 2017, 2:19 pm Even PSB get it wrong sometimes - the UK will still be in Europe. We will simply not be in the EU. These things are NOT the same. It's a rather embarrassingly reductive argument.
I'm not anti-Russia, but why a England is so desperate to appear in Putin's wet dream is beyond me.

I don't like his writing either as it happens but this piece he wrote was exceptional and won him a lot of praise from his critics.Pod wrote: Tue 21 Mar 2017, 9:36 pm I have no time for AA Gill's writing, but you're right about the constitution - the UK needs a specific constitutional document.
