Anyone else not feeling this album? It's a tad... boring, no?
I sincerely *love* Disco 2 and listen to it straight through regularly.

Heather is uptempo Saint Etienne by the numbers. Like a Sylvia-lite. IMO.

I'm going to buck the trend here and I actually like it. Interspersed with interludes like the footy scores etc, this is the essence of st etienne. Highlights are Dive, out of my mind, heather, sweet arcadia and somewhere new. However, I feel the album as a whole flows well and is great floaty, beautiful pop which the world needs right now. Not the dull gloomfest that is the new Erasure effort.
Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning.

IMO: There's nothing it does that Turnpike didn't do 100x better.

Several listens in and it's grown on me massively....
There are many great tunes and it feels like a cohesive album from start to finish
One negative I would suggest is that the songs could easily fit on any of their albums. Their sound hasn't advanced or changed much over the years.

Totally loving it and a perfect companion piece to Words and Music.
W&M was more immediate and enjoyable and had some superior uptempo-ish tunes like tonight, i got your music etc but balanced with that excellent opener track and quirky ones like Popular..
The only uptempo no here is the sublime Out of my mind, I love how evocative it is and one of those tracks, you'd wish go on for forever..
It's cool that there are some experimental nos/instrumentals like Church Pew and Breakneck Hill
my fave picks at the moment are Traindrivers with eyeliner, out of my mind, dive, whyteleafe

I have always liked Saint Etienne, but there are two Saint Etiennes (no, not the band and the French city with a famous football team...): one that occasionally produces fabulous synth pop - and another that specialises in drippy, hipsterish folk music tedium.
Sadly, this is from the latter group.
Where's the likes of He's On The Phone, Pale Movie, Method of Modern Love, or Tonight? The new one is like a poor man's Sound of Water.
