Neil vocals give the song even more emphatic sad feeling. The additional lyrics suit the song very well, too.

Lots of folk here seen to rate The Loving Kind. What exactly is the appeal? To me it's one of the least interesting songs in the entire PSB canon. It's a competent pop song but there's nothing about it that grabs me.

I can't speak for a universal "appeal" - so I won't try to suggest that you are wrong about The Loving Kind - but I will describe what I like about it and why it appeals to me. In essence, it's hugely catchy and full of hooks, it doesn't hang around in revealing them, and doesn't outstay its welcome. It's also replete with Tennantisms that I find endearing. His use of the word "disinclined" speaks volumes. Neil is always disinclined about something or other. He was disinclined to stay in Suburbia, disinclined to conform to others' expectations, disinclined to play football, disinclined to smile on Top of the Pops, disinclined to play live, and disinclined to leave Vocal in the grim state it was in prior to giving it to Stuart Price.

There's also that bit in the middle about a Monday morning platform and losing his way - how utterly PSB: lost in urbanity while pondering whether or not to take the train.

I feared this would happen. When they finally release their version of this song it's basically a polished demo.
The Xenomania production really helps this on the Girls Aloud version, and Neil's vocals sound like a first take and are not great. Such a shame, this could be such a fun, euphoria PSB track if they only finished it properly.
Oh well...hopefully the other tracks from this era are held back do they can get a proper release on a future album or as b-sides.

Nothing new. All the members of those manufactured tv acts always end up fighting like cats and dogs. It seems like they have nothing in common and just get together through contracts or auditions, up until the point where they can't stand each other anymore and just want to go solo...

Sometimes I am a little slow on the uptake...you were referring to the song 'The loving kind'...not the podcast mp3 where Nadine Coyle brands Cheryl and Girls Aloud bandmates ‘bitter’ as she lifts lid on group’s angry feud. Anyway, the podcast is an entertaining listen.

I agree - it sounds better sung by a male. The “buy you flowers and pour you wine” line seems to fit better. Not that women can’t do this, before people start!
