Where is the oddest public place you've heard a PSB song?

#1 Post by Gabby »

Sorry if this has been a topic before, but living in Canada, as I do, you don't often hear PSB except perhaps the odd radio play of West End girls on a retro radio station, or similarly popular Please/Actually era songs in various stores (What have I done to deserve this? and Always on my mind pop up from time to time).

Today I was really surprised to hear "Winner" on the in-store soundtrack in my local (Stratford, ON) WalMart. Not only PSB but also something far removed from their most popular phase in North America.

I've also heard "The Pop Kids" at a restaurant patio (Moxies) in London, ON, but it was shortly after the release of Super, so might have been more on someone's music radar at the time, but even still, hearing a more current PSB track in a public place in SW Ontario is pretty unlikely, although apparently becoming less of a rarity from this writers perspective.

Anyone else finding that PSB's songs are popping up more frequently in unexpected public places?

I was in a clothing store in the middle of Washington State in the mid 90's when KDX-125 came thumping from the store sound system.

Shocked the Hell out of me.

On the corner from where I live, one day they were playing Casting a shadow super loud. I was coming back from the super market and I was like "wtf is that, I know it".

I heard Forever In Love last night at a local bar I went to. Oh wait, I guess that's because I was the DJ.

When Borders was closing a decade ago someone put on Discography all the way through. I took my time looking through the closeout books enjoying the music. It was great getting to hear tracks like Being Boring and DJ Culture in public in the US.

Heard Can You Forgive Her in the bathroom at a Mexican restaurant. I was poop logging (am I banned yet) and started singing along from inside the stall.

Heard Samurai in Autumn on the radio, but that was because PSB was playing live that night.

Heard Love Etc precisely one time at the gym. Heard the PSB remix of the Killers Read My Mind some 300 times. I guess it's a decent mix but I never want to hear it again.
And tryin' to figure out what happened to 'Germaine Propaine'
"He couldn't have fell off that hard" Ain't no way
"What happened to the way you was rappin' when you was scandalous
That Canibus turned into a television evangelist"
Plus he raps with his regular voice [BOOSH! BOOSH!]
[BOOSH! BOOSH!] (What was that?) Pet Shop Boys

I wouldn't say this was the oddest place but it felt quite appropriate. I was in a cafe in London just before joining the first anti-Iraq war March in February 2003 when London came on. "Let's do it. Let's break the law" Well I didn't but I think it's safe to say the US and UK did.

In the Odeon Cinema in Leicester

Just before the movie started I was stunned to see the full video of It's Alright played out on the big screen. Can't recall the main feature itself but will never forget seeing the PSB vid 8)

in fact I'd pay good money today to watch the whole of Videography in a decent cinema with the sound cranked up to 11.
you could say conventional ... and I could claim intentional
