I came across this again on youtube,I posted it years ago here, thought I'd post it again,
not only is the feel of the song the same....and what with the New York lyric and pretty much a similar bass line

def a bit interesting. not sure if they came across this somehow....me in my fascination with bubble gum pop, alot of Lief Garrets stuff is pretty good.

So weird!! The bass line and the percussion does sound like New York city boy

I didn't think they would *actually* sound alike

Yeah it is uncanny, too much similarity to be a coincidence, I just checked Geowayne's site and no mention of this (http://www.geowayne.com/newDesign/nightlife/nycboy.htm). Hmmm!

Personally I don't think they're similar, other than one being from the actual era and the other being a pastiche.

Of course they’re similar! There’s nothing wrong with that, but we can’t pretend the later track doesn’t owe A LOT to the earlier one, just because we’re fans.

Well.its like that Get Lucky song from Daft Punk, it was inspired by 70/80s funk so they took a piece of this and a piece of that but in 1999 there wasnt much revival around and that wasnt something to comment I guess, every piece of art comes from another

Not true..there was loads of filtered disco around in 1999..thats why they used that technique on New York city boy.

Hmmm thats interesting. but thats ok by me.
the bassline and arrangement are similar and it even has "new york city" in the title. its just a tad too convenient for it to be a coincidence. I mean when I heard the chorus I was like WHOA, thats it! the rest of the tune is different however. but they arent stupid. they knew they couldnt just straight up take the whole thing.

the PSB I suspect scour the internet for music no different than you or I an I suspect they tend to be like a Hoover vacuum cleaner and suck up a bit of this, and a bit of that and it colors their music. they've already admitted as such here and there in interviews.

I dont think you would have gotten a say, "Monkey business" had Daft Punk not done "get lucky". that sort of funky/glistening pop style. the PSB tend to be reactive to music trends rather than ahead of the curve.
