I'm sure someone who helped MTV Russia and played in Moscow during Live8, oh and most importantly: who has a degree in history and an interest in Russian history in particular, knows something about Russia's past to make up his own mind on this matter.

I've listened to it once and that will probably do me for now. Not sure whether I absorbed the intended message or not, but to me it communicates that although there is impermanence in all things, some things persist far longer than we would like, and that whilst they may be impermanent, if they last our lifetimes, then what different are they from that which is permanent? When that thing persisting over time is undesirable and imposes itself upon us, there's almost a sense of injustice about it. Yet, that has been the hierarchical order of Earthly life for a very long time*. "History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new." (Ecclesiastes 1:9).

Anyway, without reading the lyrics and getting immersed in lyrical literalism, that's what themes this song communicated to me. It's a somewhat uncomfortable feeling, which is perhaps why putting it on repeat is not high on my agenda.

I think Neil just threw up in his mouth reading someone suggest Jordan Peterson might be pertinent to anything at all.

Given that Neil wrote "Love Is A Bourgeois Construct", which juxtaposes the abstract notion of a "construct" against something more substantial, and by doing so illustrates that how someone relates to and holds a construct actually shapes their behaviours and lived experience, I'm sure Neil could manage to simultaneously hold and evaluate different notions without nausea.

Honestly, people. It's a song. A song about an issue which Neil is (correctly in my opinion) trying to highlight and trying to make people understand just how dangerous the situation is. There is very little we can do about it but without speaking up and objecting in whatever form that is, democracy doesn't stand a chance. At the end of the day, it's just a song and we should all be grateful that our favourite band are still making music after 40 years or so. Personally, when I turned the computer on and saw there was a new PSB track about, I still got the same rush of excitement I got when I first heard a new song on the radio when I was a kid. We are lucky they are still writing, still touring and still provoking controversy in a world of dumbed-down, force-fed ideas and values. Sermon over....
