So I literally just got an email to let me know that the white vinyl is back in stock. Visited the link in the email, and none available already. :(

Actually now got 4 emails in a row lol. I must have clicked the 'Notify Me' button a few times!

Noticed another mastering error on 'SMASH'

I ripped the Blu-ray audio of 'Go West (Extended)' and 'How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously?' as neither have been released digitally. Was listening on headphones this morning, and 'How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously?' is mono - i.e. left and right channels identical with no stereo effects.

So the 'PopArt' DVD audio remains the best quality digital version available.

Yes, I noticed this too. It's also awfully compressed. But the original 7" single already sounded bad in this matter.

By the way "Go West (extended version)" doesn't follow the same rule as Domino Dancing" and "So hard". It is not a different editing of the video with new shots or longer shots to the soundtrack of the then current main 12" version, as you would expect. It's a simple assembly of two previously available videos: "Go west" the original video + "Go west (part 2)" from the "Various" music videos compilation. The end result is debatable. Its soundtrack is "Go west (album/single version) + (Mings gone west: second movement)". Quite a weird combination, a rushed job that doesn't make much sense according to me. And I dare anyone to watch the second part of that video in its entirety. Not suited for people with epilepsy for sure.

Forgot about 'Various' having the separate video for 'Go West (Part 2)'. Have never seen this isolated version. How does it begin?

I don't have a VHS player anymore but as far as I remember it, it begins directly with the Mings gone west second movement, just as it is in the "Go west (extended)" video, but without the first part, of course.

It seems they’ve spotted the Being boring error. Are there any other obvious ones they should be picking up? Wasn’t Drunk also a censored version?

I do wonder if they had a look at the remastered videos before approving them. While a lot of them look better than they used to (it's so good to finally have "Before", "I don't know what you want but I can't give it anymore", "Minimal" and "Miracles" in the right aspect ratio for example), "So hard" is virtually unwatchable.

With proper supervision, even if they don't have the original film, videos like "So hard" and "Being boring" should have a dark, grainy, textured look rather than the waxy smooth look of these remasters. A few of them are way better on PopArt, which is 20 years old!

I think the issue is the producers of SMASH have only been given access to standard definition video copies and told to "make them HD" quickly and cheaply. Obviously the dream is for all of these videos to be remastered properly from the original films (look at "Always on my mind" remastered by the BFI!), but in the real world, with small budgets and presumably a lack of access to original film elements, I do think what has been done could have been done much, much more carefully.
Heaven is possible,
AFTER ALL.

Hopefully the new version of the Blu-ray will also fix the audio glitch at the start of Opportunities.

Didn't know there was a censored version of Drunk. What was cut out?

Did anyone get an email acknowledgement after filling in the website form for a replacement Blu-ray? It looked like a competition entry form, but I didn't get any email confirmation
