It's an excellent use of Rent in a very well made, yet nasty film. It's driven by a psychopathic envy and a dark nihilism that is deeply sick.

I don't know, I'd rather see PSB tracks being used in more subtle contexts. This just encourages a rather modern, sickly and obvious cliche.

There was nothing interesting or well crafted about the plot. Better off watching Brideshead or Ripley. The fact that the grave and dance scenes are getting all the attention and were just thrown in out of desperation kinda says it all. The script didn't hold up, thinking it was cleverer than it was.

I enjoyed the family dynamic and some of the acting in quieter moments, and the occasional banter. The cinematography/locations were nice too

Not seen the film (yet) but agree with the sentiment of using PSB tracks in subtle ways. My understanding is Rent's used as a plot device to draw attention to the dynamic of the people involved, and probably missed the mark by being too literal in its interpretation of the song.

I'd prefer to see an original film with original songs/music written for the film by N&C. I think that might achieve the subtlety of which you speak?

I wonder why PSB have not publicly commented on "Rent" being karaoked in this film? Embarrassed? I'm sure they got paid well for this gig.

They didn’t do anything with opportunities from Tetris movie. I got goosebumps when the intro started playing as I didn’t know it was featured. It was a good mix too, should have been released at the time. Maybe when Always on my mind features in All of us strangers it could get some attention?

Yes that mix from Tetris was great. I do sometimes feel they don't seize these "opportunities" for additional promotion with the vigour they deserve. Maybe it's about not wanting to endorse the movie it's part of? It's the only reason I can think of.

I think if they allow any song to be used in a movie it should be an indication that they like the project and give it their full support. Although they did allow ‘Sceaming’ to be in the Psycho remake and that movie was pants! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for always on my mind to get the response that murder on the dancefloor did in Saltburn

I guess that's a fair point, although they allowed West End girls on GTA without even really knowing what the game was about. It got plenty of exposure though which was really good to hear.

It'd be nice, wouldn't it if Always on my mind got some fresh love?

I'm quite keen to see it (more than Saltburn which sounds just plain odd to me). The movie is on (very limited) cinema release here in Canada - the nearest place for me is over 130km away, so wont be getting to that any time soon

It might be that Always on my mind won’t get any new attention until the film is available to buy/download/stream worldwide. I don’t think murder did anything until Amazon prime got Saltburn.

All of us strangers should stream when their new album is released. Imagine If Always on my mind went to number one for a second time. They should release a new EP of mixes to give it an extra push!

I remember Neil giving a bit of backstory about the song, and explaining that the original lyrics to "Rent" actually were:

"You took me to a restaurant off Broadway/And introduced me to a star" .

They were then changed to : " To tell me who you are" at the time of recording the vocals.

I think this was in one of Chris Heath's books...

Honest question, which aside from the obvious answer that N&C did not give permission - why on earth isn't Rent on the Saltburn soundtrack album?

I've seen several limited edition vinyl releases of the soundtrack and it's got some good stuff on there, but to leave out what is arguably quite a pivotal track is weird...

I finally got round to watching this. What an awful film. It's like the director took elements of better stories, put it in a blender and came up with an extended Duran Duran video.

Regarding the use of Rent, that scene doesn't make sense if he was out to kill them all as he looks hurt when he realises what the lyric is about. Or is he acting hurt? Like the other vapid characters would notice. I've seen episodes of The Flumps with more character motivation or development.

And the puncture must be the slowest puncture ever...

I can say with conviction that Wuthering Heights will be the worst film of all time. What's wrong with Generation Z? Do they honestly like this derivative slop? Why do they worship posh nepo baby hacks?
