This thread is to talk about the b-sides of Loneliness

#1 Post by Nickname »

There is another thread about Loneliness but it's more oriented about the song but I think is better to have another thread about the b-sides. Well, they are two proper songs.

I think Party in the Blitz is a good song, not with the typical sound from PSB but If like it. :D

Through You is better than Loneliness and I don't understand why this song is not going to be on the album. :?

I love Party in the Blitz, different production and very them.

Through You is also classic b side but enough with the 90s snare rolls already. I get a bit of ELO 'Time' era from this tune, which is not a bad thing at all.

I like both of them, both very PSB...especially Party in the Blitz

As of now, I feel Through You is the better of the two.

It looks like the red part of the lyrics are missing in the final recording of Party in the Blitz. Interesting to know how the original lyrics looked like. Hopefully the lyrics in the booklet are correct!

Party in the Blitz
in the Blitz, in the Blitz
There’s a party in the Blitz
in the Blitz, in the Blitz

Party in the Blitz
Avoiding direct hits
Only for sophisticates
If the situation permits

Party in the Blitz
Keep going
Too many wild oats
need sowing
Cocktails at the Ritz
still mixing
I think a little drink
needs fixing

Mornington Crescent
A bomb fell last night
We’re clearing up the mess
and still a little tight

Waiting for the firemen
in the morning light
And then I think a drink
and there’s some poetry to write

As bombs were falling
I was trying to avoid
all the crashing bores
that history’s deployed
to try to reconcile us
to the pointlessness of life
I wish that you were with me now
I wish I was your wife

Party in the Blitz
in the Blitz, in the Blitz
There’s a party in the Blitz
in the Blitz, in the Blitz

Party in the blitz
More drinking
Losing everything
Dick shrinking
Getting off your tits
Who’s cares now?
Anyone who did
is dead now

It’s Sunday morning
I just realised
Church bells are ringing
while the breakfasts are fried
We’re hoping for the firemen
to put out the blaze
And then I think a drink
and there’s a party to arrange

As the bombs were falling
I was trying to explain
existentialism
with the last of the champagne
I failed to reconcile us
to the pointlessness of life
I wish that you were with me now
I wish I was your wife

Party in the Blitz
in the Blitz, in the Blitz
There’s a party in the Blitz
in the Blitz, in the Blitz

Party in the blitz
More drinking
Losing everything
Dick shrinking
Getting off your tits
Who’s cares now?
Anyone who did
is dead now

Party in the Blitz
Keep going
Too many wild oats
need sowing
Cocktails at the Ritz
still mixing
I think a little drink
needs fixing
Don't give me all your northern pain
Don't sell me New York in the rain
Let's leave our promises behind
Rewind and try again

I thought I misheard "dick shrinking" but that's the actual lyrics... wow, this must be the best PSB song ever.

Had a new listen to them this morning... Could they be leftovers from Electric era?

Through you is a better song but not a better single
you could say conventional ... and I could claim intentional

On spotify they basically made it an EP.

So all the songs - together with the album version - are an EP.

But the b-sides are amazing and I love them. If this is the minimum level then the album is fantastic!
