Apparent DDoS Attack on the Forum

#1 Post by Drico One »

Hi All,

A quick update on why the forum has been inaccessible over the past 24 hours. Apparently, we have experienced a DDoS attack. A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is a malicious attempt to disrupt the normal traffic of a targeted server, service or network by overwhelming the target or its surrounding infrastructure with a flood of Internet traffic.

This forum and the German forum have been impacted. The Gardner will have more informed info (I am simply recounting what he told me yesterday). Apologies for the inconvenience.

Drico.

ouch - I was bereft while this was going on. Thanks for hitting the reset button!

I probably contributed in some part to the DDoS with my frequent attempts to see if the community was back up!

I had something similar on the forum I host. A few weeks ago. Not really a DDoS attack, but an overeager crawler that tried to get every content in as little time as possible. Very annoying.

Still not accessible via Tapatalk app for me … maybe a caching issue?

The Gardner tells me that we are still under fire (at a manageable level for the ISP), so there may still be issues over the coming days. It's Easter weekend, too, so it may be that there are outages here and there.

I'm hearing that the collective weight of over-wrought wordage on the Track-by-Track thread was responsible. Either that or the Chinese.

Sorry to hear that. Hope things sorted for us all soon. Makes you realise how much reliance is taken for granted for this great site. As in I was slightly worried I’d not get the updates on the Boys anymore.

It might be handy if there was a social media account or something where updates could be posted in the event of something similar happening again.
