I think the same.retrofuturist wrote: Wed 03 Apr 2024, 12:49 pm Greetings,
I've only just listened to Dancing Star tonight, but it didn't do anything much for me. Loneliness is a tad better, but if these are the two best tracks on the album, I'm not expecting this to be one of my favourite albums.

I really like Dancing Star. Immediately catchy, bouncy, and has all the feels most of you have mentioned that make it feel vintage yet current. Love the Solomun mix/dub, I do wish it were longer though. I think I'll do a mash-up mix of the dub and vocal versions to create a proper 8 minute club track, since that's what I'd expect from Solomun. Sense of Time is interesting, I think I want the rhythm/bass line to be harder. Love the synths though and lyrics.
Oh and as for this:

I agree. I was thinking that you can really hear this on If Jesus had a Sister. Overall I do hope Neil's voice hasn't permanently gotten too deep/raspy though like his recent interviews.Gabby wrote: Wed 03 Apr 2024, 12:06 pm Observations on Neil's voice anyone? I am sensing a deeper more gravelly vocal these days. Age plays a part for sure. I've been a fan of his lower range vocal anyway so no issues here but unusual to hear so many tracks in a row that cater to it.

Dancing star has already grown on me a bit. I'm all for claps, cowbells, synth funk baselines and orchestral stabs, just think there's not enough substance in the song. Well, the chorus is pretty infectious at least.
It reminds me of some 80s Madonna song too - probably Holiday?

Does anybody on here actually like anything they do anymore? I’m all for opinions but Jesus wept all people do on here is moan! Christ on a pushbike, we’ve already had six new songs, we’ve got another eight to look forward to, four new rerecordings and five remixes! What other band going for 40 years offers you that!

"Bitter and stale" ...
Loving this period so far. Great songs. Proper videos. Lovely sleeves. Lots of extra tracks
Oh, hang on... wasn't there a video being made for Dancing star... when does that come out?

Another one to add to the "bsides better than the single" list.
Pretty "meh!" for me.
Sense of time is awesome though!!!
And the Jesus one is quite nice too.
Remixes are WOW!
Superchumbo's take on Party in the Blitz might be in the top 5 of Pet shop boys remixes. Got me jumping round the living room instantly!

Kidding - they do need 10+ years for it.

I, for one, still LOVE all they do! It's hard for me to find a fault or complain. I'm so grateful. There are a few songs in the canon that I can't bear ("What keeps mankind alive?tottenhammattspurs wrote: Wed 03 Apr 2024, 1:19 pm Does anybody on here actually like anything they do anymore? Loving at least half of this EP.
Sense Of Time - a brilliant B-side, almost An Open Mind quality
Dancing Star - short but to the point single
Party In The Blitz (Superchumbo Remix) - lovely chord progression and Neil at his wry best, never imagined a PSB song would have the lyrics dick shrinking...
Solomun remixes are also pretty good, the only one I can't get into is the Jesus song.

That’s the thing about negative energy, about hatred. It can be positive. It throws into relief all the things you know you like. It tells you, by elimination, what you’re about. Sometimes you can only define yourself by what you hate. Hatred becomes an inspiration; it makes you think, “What I’m doing now I totally believe in, and I don’t care what other people say.” Guided by hatred, you don’t have to follow the herd. - Neil Tennant

Re: New single „Dancing star“ (digital April 3rd / CD May 3rd)
After the sort of odd start with loneliness for me, they are back on track! this sounds effortless and breezy and dancey and symphonic like their best earlier songs...and they are playing to us I think, the die hard fans with the arrangement.
I am properly excited for the new album especially with the fantastic B-sides which are so good, especially IJHAS which is a new all time fav so soon before an actual release I always wonder why they just dont at the last minute flip the script and make the B-sides the album and the album tracks the b-sides.
I think when you get up there in such a long history as a band you pretty much end up playing to the die hards and the nostalgic crew.
anyways fantastic!

Re: New single „Dancing star“ (digital April 3rd / CD May 3rd)
I've been a member of some groups on Reddit, Telegram, and various other platforms and people seem generally excited and happy, even when they don't love the songs. I was equally excited to join this sub in February but it's hideous. I've never known a fan community like it. I did get one win, over some smug idiot telling me I was a dummy for thinking they could schedule a release for the same time as a radio play, but they seem to have scuttled off now and I won't hold my breath for an apology. But I was probably a dick to them as well and that's just part of fan groups. But the constant whining and being down on everything PSB do, release or think (always with the "we don't have to love everything" disclaimer that doesn't explain why they actually hate everything) is grating and makes this place stand out as a toxic waste dumptottenhammattspurs wrote: Wed 03 Apr 2024, 1:19 pm Does anybody on here actually like anything they do anymore? Amalfi
Blue skies, blue sea
It’s a long way from Siberia
How did you get here?
Jumped the barrier at Orly Airport
Claimed political asylum there
Took all the KGB boys by surprise
I think they thought that you would never dare
But you knew you had to take a risk
You broke the rules over and over again
A fiery talent with a reputation
A trouble-maker among sombre men
Dancing star
That’s what you are
Came so far
You’re a dancing star
Dancing star
More power than a tsar
Yes you are
You’re a dancing star
When the streets of London sang with pop stars Well the truth is that they always do
In the 60s you could feel the freedom
and the brightest star in town was you
Always a scandal and a real heart-breaker
Boys and girls both threw themselves at you

That’s how bright you shine...

I'm loving Dancing Star and the Solomun remixes are superb. The Superchumbo remix of Blitz is a belter too. We are extremely fortunate to still have them. Can't wait till Nonetheless is released !tottenhammattspurs wrote: Wed 03 Apr 2024, 1:19 pm Does anybody on here actually like anything they do anymore? Catchy, interesting retro sound. Feels as though it needs a bit more energy in the chorus, though it picks up at the end. Bit like a cross between Say it to me / Thursday and Madonna circa 1984.
