Haven't seen it yet, but It's A Sin was a cover version (albeit with production) and In Private wasn't even put on an album. Maybe not up there as a Dusty-style colab?

The thought occurred to me last night that they’ve now had documentaries of at least one hour on each of the four main British terrestrial television channels:

Imagine: Then and Now (BBC One, 2024)
That Was Then, This is Now (BBC Two, 1988)
The South Bank Show (ITV 1, 1992)
A Life In Pop (Channel Four, 2006)

I can’t think of any other contemporary act that’s the case for. Amazing!

Brilliant watch that was, last night.

Surprised at how many of the album covers they don't like !

Great to hear some of the less obvious tracks being played like Decide and the start of the fabulous After the Event.

Found myself getting a bit emotional when Neil read the lyrics to Being Boring.

Watched peripherally last night (I'm on a visit to the UK!). My dad is a chatterbox so it was on in the background and I kept drifting between it and whatever he was talking about. Kind of agonizing so will need to watch in earnest on iPlayer later in a quieter environment. Looked really interesting though.

Well it was very good indeed...been a while to see them talking about themselves and another look back. Chris - talking more this time and he is very funny with his comments and reactions.

I watched 'A Life In Pop' the day before and there were some similarities as they had Brandon Flowers and Jake Shears interviewed again for this new programme.

When they went through the pile of vinyl album covers they missed out Yes and Elysium...no mention of those albums sadly.

Highlight for me was those cassette demos and the flick through...as a fan you like to hear track evolution, unreleased stuff and rough demos. Those wobbly recorded vocals from the pre-Bobby O recordings.

Re Nonetheless - New London Boy sounds great as does the track just before it (was that Feel?). Then there was a bit during one of the NYC flight sequences that sounded like it might be The secret of happiness…

The electro bit that starts at 15:45 - is probably Why am I dancing? the lyric is 'I will never let you down; I will (stay?)'
New London boy bit starts at 16:40
At 28:45 - I'm convinced that 'lounge music' instrumental is them, and that it is The secret of happiness.. the rhythm track sounds like them, and not like a 60s piece...
And at 1:24:05 - I bet those strings are the very end of the album - the outro for Love is the law?

What a fantastic watch ,the highlight for me was Chris made me laugh out loud more than once ,the snippets of the new tracks sound fantastic,brilliant to see them so happy.

In regard too missing out albums etc. I would imagine they would have discussed them all in more length -and probably had Neil reading out more lyrics etc. they probably had had hours of content edited down to the 1 1/2 hours we got. Be great to get a DVD with more content At the end when the credits rolled they showed a few snippets.

It was a really great programme - yet as a long time fan I would always like more in depth talk

A bit more on how they create music today and not always in the far past. They dont work the same ways/methods all the time. Seeing it left me with even more questions than answers.

Yet, I think there was some great behind the scenes we dont normally see or hear about - or at least you can read between the lines - I wonder how many artist have gotten a no to collaborations - probably many.

I really enjoyed it. As well as the ''trotting'' sound on the West End girls demo the Boys trotted out several familiar stories including Dusty singing one note at a time (which I have to say one can't tell on the issued recordings!)

Chris was very funny and a very telling remark that he is just not interested in their legacy, the ongoing interest is about the creative process.

Honestly I'm kind of glad. There's too much backwards gazing and they are here, now, still writing and creating...why look back? Only forwards! Good for him!
