Re: New album Nonetheless
I’m beginning to think that “Nonetheless” is now one of my top 3 favourite albums from their career. Top tier, or elite-level, one might say.
More strobes and BANGING, please!

Re: New album Nonetheless
I totally agree. It may be lacking in bangers but, oh, the melodies, the lyrics. The power of maturity. I concur that the electronic side is a bit subdued (half of Narcissus beat is bongos, New London Boy beat is very similar to Only the wind), but I understand they wanted something radically different to the Price trilogy, which turned them into half Chemical Brothers half ABBA. And I think it worked beautifully. I like that they are versatile enough not to be tied to a specific sound or even synthesizers. Nonetheless is magnificent.Straight_Talker wrote: Fri 31 May 2024, 1:56 pm I’m beginning to think that “Nonetheless” is now one of my top 3 favourite albums from their career. Look left, then right
And run for your life
And run for your life

On the contrary, they seem to be going through something of a renaissance in the public eye
But don't despair, Swampy. New Kids On The Block are back with a new album, should be right up your alley.

Re: New album Nonetheless
So, is this their 3rd or 4th or even 5th "renaissance"?
0th: West End girls 1985 (after double failure of West End girls '84 and Oppor'85)
1st: Very - 1933 (well actually it's all about Go West, isn't it?)
2nd: Fundamental - 2006 (after failures of Nightlife and Release) or Yes/Brit Awards/Take That tour 2009/2010
3rd: Electric - 2013
4th: Nonetheless - 2024

So so far:
10 album tracks
6 new tracks (b-sides)
1 demo
1 radio mix
5 remixes
Not a bad catch....

Could probably include the period around the Brit Awards 2009?telys wrote: Tue 04 Jun 2024, 12:31 pm So, is this their 3rd or 4th or even 5th "renaissance"?

I don't live over there, but the amount of glow they are receiving seems more open this time around?
Think it's something to do with age, and the age of the people reporting and interviewing (people seem to be fondly referring to them more?), but also this album just seems plain relatable
Maybe after covid, and with so much war and division brewing, people are more open to the yearning and earnestness of Nonetheless, and N&C have built up alot of respect to leverage this moment. I'm glad they didn't release a darker Fundy 2 like I'd hoped
I mean, sure, they're not a Taylor Swift level of billionaire street recognition; but they're certainly in the mix today. Am impressed by them as much as I've ever been.

Re: New album Nonetheless
If it's lacking bangers well the only one i can think of is Loneliness with it's catchy chorus but still it's not on their old level although not bad at all. What i would change for this album is to make it more funky i would replace Feel for I've got plans (involving you) and The Secret for Happiness to If Jesus had a sister. That would make that album much more interesting.le petit corbusier wrote: Fri 31 May 2024, 7:11 pmI totally agree. It may be lacking in bangers but, oh, the melodies, the lyrics. Your life's a mystery, mine is an open book. If I could read your mind, I think I'd take a look.

Re: New album Nonetheless
This album and the associated singles/bonus tracks are the strongest collective body of work the PSB have released in a very long time. I've been a fan since 1987 and always buy the albums when they come out. Usually, the later albums tend to drop off my radar after a while but this one is holding steady. I have a feeling it will join my "go to" albums and I love that.

Do we get a special edition on June 26th? It‘s got a new cat#. Or is it a mistake?
