Re: PSB @ MTV EMA
Having had time to think about this, I think it’s been a really good idea. You’ve shrunk down the new single and a timeless classic to just under two minutes each. The perfect length for this generation of youth with no patience. It’s still West end Girls but it’s two mins long. It’s still Dudes but distilled into two mins. Perfect.
Also, the talk of “40 and 52 yr old songs” just doesn’t carry any weight with the younger generation. They literally have no concept of what is “old” and what is “new”. Thanks (?) to Spotify it’s all just “music”. They either like it or they don’t. Kids had no idea that Murder on the dancefloor was a 22 yr old song. They have no idea that You Can Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac is pushing 50 They either like songs or they don’t. They are probably half aware of West end girls but they wouldn’t have a clue that it’s 40 yrs old. It’s just “a song”.

Greetings,
Retro.
Best version yet... it no longer feels like Neil is fighting against the rhythm.

Finally took the time to watch the whole performance on a large screen and thought it worked really well. Fantastic set, brilliant arrangements, love the shiny coats. The yoof looked like they were enjoying themselves, if a little confused in places ("Wot's 'e doing? Does 'e even do anyfing??"tottenhammattspurs wrote: Mon 11 Nov 2024, 11:00 pm Having had time to think about this, I think it’s been a really good idea. Did I miss all the comments about the Kings of Ironic Pop doing a song about young dudes when their collective age is 135, or have we had that discussion before?
Also, interesting juxtaposition of ATYD and West End girls in that both of them start out talking about suicide. Cheers!
Is there any actual footage of the award presentation anywhere or is it not worth watching?
For your own good, call me tonight.

Re: PSB @ MTV EMA
There was some discussion earlier about whether this was performed live. Given the expediency of the released material today, I'm suspecting it wasn't...sort of. I think the orchestra was live. I think Neil was "mostly" live but with the recorded track to boost the vocal, and I reckon Chris probably wasn't playing anything live at all.
That's not a dig - I think given the time and effort needed just to put in 5 minutes of spectacle, I'd be looking for every opportunity to cut corners and cost. They went to the trouble to studio record it, the visuals were amazing. Job well done!
