Re: Hypothetical Nonetheless Extras album

This is the order I arrived at over the weekend. I called it Moreover (link to Spotify playlist).

Nonetheless is more sumptuous, cohesive, and deep, but Moreover is chock full of thrills. I love these songs.

"Beauty" stands shoulder to shoulder with the traditional PSB album closer. I placed "Miserere" as a coda rather than a prelude. I could imagine programming a half-minute's silence ahead of it.

This alongside the great batch of remixes, demos, and the core album itself, I can't believe the generosity of this era we're witnessing. What a fortune to be a Pet Shop Boys fan.

Pet Shop Boys MOREOVER

side 1
Everybody will dance
It’s not a crime
Party in the Blitz
All the young dudes
I’ve got plans (Involving you)
Sense of time

side 2
Through you (Extended mix)
Clean Air Hybrid Electric Bus
Adrenaline
If Jesus had a sister
The dark end of the street
Beauty has laid siege to the city
MiserereImageImage

I like that. The only tweak I would make is to switch the last three tracks around to Miserere then Beauty and finishing with Dark end..

I am sold! "Miserere" is such an oddity, I wasn't more imaginative about integrating it than tacking it on at the end, but it sits in that juncture really nicely. I like that it's part of the progression now. And good call on swapping "Beauty" and "Street". "Street" does come to more of a climax. And I like how "Beauty" kind of sets the stage for it. I updated the playlist on Spotify. It's such a great listen. With all the remixes, it's like they put out three top albums in one year. Amazing.

Thanks, y3potential!Image

57 minutes, 13 tracks. That's too long. I'd cut off Hybrid at least, and a minute or so on Through You

That looks great to me. The only thing I'd do differently is make Dudes the Delinquent version which is far superior. Who cares if it's 57 minutes, it's nearly an hour of genius.
And at the end/ Your funny Uncle staring / At all your friends / With military bearing

Think what you want about running time/order/mix or version of any particular track. How many artists out there would give their hind teeth for such a strong album, yet for the Boys its, "oh yea, these are some other tracks we've got lying around"!

I burnt this to CD last night in the suggested order for the car, only change was to replace Dudes with the superior Delinquent Version. It flows superbly and sounds so strong to my ears.

Wasn't Living In the Past recorded during the Nonetheless sessions? If so everyone is leaving that off and I think it's quite a good song.

(That is indeed a moving track. I collected it on my Demonstration set along with the rest of the Lost EP that it's considered part of and the Agenda EP:

Pet Shop Boys DEMONSTRATION)

Oh, that's awesome to hear Old Soak. I played it again while I worked this morning and keep loving it, too. BugBoy has it right, it's an astonishment of riches we're sat with.

I do like that Delinquent version. The main mix makes me happy, too. Neil is really loving communing with his hero.

Glad you like that art, too, y3potential! Of course, PSB/Farrow made all the actual aesthetic decisions. That photo with those magazines makes me smile.

Hasn't this PSB year unfurled in a lovely way!

Old Soak wrote: Sun 24 Nov 2024, 2:18 pm So, excluding the remakes of old tracks and demos we have the following original [first time] or cover versions:

1. Party in the blitz
2.Through you
3. Sense of time
4. If Jesus had a sister
5. It's not a crime
6. I've got plans (involving you)
7. Everybody will dance
8. All the young Dudes
9. Beauty has laid siege to the city
10. Clean Air Hybrid Electric Bus
11. Adrenaline
12. The dark end of the street
13. Miserere

That's a solid 13 track album - but in what order for maximum effect and flow?
I've made my own list and called it Hypothetical!

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6TgJl ... Hqn5tgrRD1

You can have up to a 10 second dirty crossfade on these tracks for a pretty good flow through the list and in my head there's probably a sort of plot going on with plans for a party in Blitz and some encounters before a spiritual redemption in Miserere.

EDIT: I could resit adding Living in the past as a Coda, which in my mind needs to go into Elton's Song for Guy. Reduce crossfade to four seconds if you carry on this far, and in fact they then don't crossfade but just segue...

Adrenaline
I've got plans (involving you)
Party in the Blitz
Everybody will dance
Sense of time
Through you
If Jesus had a sister
It's not a crime
All the young dudes
Beauty has laid siege to the city
The dark end of the street
Clean Air Hybrid Electric Bus
Miserere
Living in the past
Song for Guy

One hour and five minutes of your time well spent if you listen to the whole list!
I'm your puppet

Having now listened at least a dozen times with familiarity I can really recommend this as flowing well despite the variety of styles and extremely listenable.
