Dunelm Mill in Farnborough yesterday had Always on my mind playing over their system. Weirdly it was the 12" version!

Nationwide Building Society last week. What have I done to deserve this? came on.

Not an odd place, but pleased to announce that I successfully managed to crowbar Schlager Hit Parade, the Lee Aaron cover of It Doesn't Often Snow at Christmas, AND Joseph Better You Than Me into my work's Christmas Spotify playlist.
I decided not to pitch the original or single version of It Doesn't Often as I've done that before, and wanted to change it up and be a little sneakier in getting PSB stuff into the list.

In Asda opticians, being boring was being played as I arrived and later it’s a sin. I asked if it was being played in all stores and was told as far as they knew it was.

Different songs are played on a regular basis in three shopping malls. Russia, Yekaterinburg.

And it put me right off my game of pool when it was playing. Culminating in me (wrongly) potting the black ball, and losing the game just after Example started rapping.

It doesn't often snow at Christmas was played before the Grimsby Town v Accrington game on Tuesday night. Probably because it was baltic.

I quietly added Feel to the work playlist not long after the album came out. Actually went down really well, so I added Loneliness to it as well. Ultimately I managed to get a few more on there before I left in August.Gabby wrote: Tue 03 Dec 2024, 3:21 pm Not an odd place, but pleased to announce that I successfully managed to crowbar Schlager Hit Parade, the Lee Aaron cover of It Doesn't Often Snow at Christmas, AND Joseph Better You Than Me into my work's Christmas Spotify playlist.

I've barely heard their music playing elsewhere sadly, but I did hear Loneliness in a shopping centre recently. Not really an odd place, but unusual in Australia, or at least in my experience.
I'm here. You're there.

Did once hear I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing played in a hot sweaty pub full of p*ssed up footy fans. A couple even sang (?) along loudly to the “ta ra ra ra” part before launching into the infamous “you’re sh*t and you know you are” chant

"Opportunities" at Wal-Mart (a common grocery store in the USA) about two years ago. They have a nationwide playlist, so I think it played at all of them. Yeah, it's not an odd song or place, but it's only one of, like, TWO times I've ever heard the Boys in public, so it strikes me as odd every time. The only other time was when I heard "Always on my mind" at an arcade since it's on a Guitar Hero machine.
Kind of related: on a mini-forum for an obscure online game (played by about 1,000 people consistently, the vast majority of whom are teenagers & early 20's), someone posted a topic that was just lyrics from The Sodom & Gommorah Show. It was about the last place I ever expected anyone to know who the Pet Shop Boys are, let alone a song as obscure as that one, so, very surprising.

I heard 'All The Young Dudes' play recently on Radio 2 whilst in the Windsor Tea Rooms in the posh seaside resort of Penarth, south Wales. I was with some friends in their 60s having a traditional fried breakfast. An old-fashioned setting not disimilar to the Bread & Breakfast scene in 'It Couldn't Happen Here'. The song made more sense to me in that moment than it ever had before.

It doesn’t always snow at Christmas took me by surprise coming on the play list in my local Woolworths supermarket!

West End Girls - Sleaford Mods cover version was the track that Miles Kane walked on stage to at The Kasbah live music venue / nightclub in Coventry for his recent One Man Band tour Saturday just gone.
