Pet Shop Boys remix Primal Scream

#46 Post by Dog »

It looks like the PSB mix has a slightly different title on the forthcoming Primal Scream remix album - “PSB King Of The World Remix”. It’s the same version as the released remix though:

“We have been truly blessed that so many wonderful, talented and creative people have taken up the offer to remix songs from our ‘Come Ahead’ album with such inventiveness and enthusiasm,” frontman Bobby Gillespie said in a new statement. “We are very proud of these remixes and at some point would like to release them on 12” vinyl and include the beautiful dub mixes to accompany them.”

He continued: “Andrew Weatherall set a very high bar with his remix work on ‘Screamadelica’ and I believe that everyone who worked on this latest project had that in mind as they entered the studio to do their stuff. You can hear the results for yourself. Enjoy!”

My thoughts exactly, right after the intro.

I'm enjoying this after a few listens, but does Neil's vocal sound oddly muffled (particularly on the 's' sound of 'innocent')? I'm wondering if, given it's only a line, he recorded it on his phone - we've seen him do this a few times now, certainly for the lockdown version of West End girls and Cricket Wife but also I suspect for the Furthermore tracks, which have the same low-quality sound on the vocals (maybe a combination of the original recordings not being great, and whatever noise reduction they've had to apply). It's a shame as, though I understand it for the lockdown tracks, it really doesn't sound good, and makes Furthermore into quite an odd product next to Nonetheless.
I must disengage your recreational music.

And here's the edit :

I can't decide whether the new vocals (at 2:40) are Neil's voice or not...
