Album titles that crop up on other albums

#1 Post by Ramzy »

This is a bit of a strange one but bear with. I often notice in A Different Point of View that one line - "just say yes, please" - contains the names of two other PSB albums (this song, of course, is on Very, not Please or Yes). We know they aren't given to producing title tracks, but can anyone think of more examples where their album titles are quoted in this way in the lyrics of *other* albums? (Obviously the words "bilingual", "nightlife" and "electric" appear in songs that are contemporary to those albums, so I'm not including them.)

As well as "yes, please", one that I only noticed tonight is "nonetheless" in the lyrics of Undertow. And perhaps we should give a special mention to the line "I'm a bilingual illiterate" from It Couldn't Happen Here (the film, not the song), nine years before Bilingual came out. It all reminds me of the thread someone here started a while ago containing a list of concept/branding words - maybe there is something in the idea that there are certain words to which they keep returning.

There must be more album titles hidden in their lyrics! Anyone?

I think we covered this in a podcast episode, although I can’t remember which. There are actually quite a lot. Keeping things strictly to album tracks:

Please

The dictator decides
Psychological
One in a million
A different point of view
One and one more five
Metamorphosis

Behaviour

Metamorphosis

Very

I get along
My October symphony
Yesterday, when I was mad

Bilingual

Single

Release

The dictator decides

Yes

Ego music
Loneliness
Dancing star
Dreaming of the Queen
Everything means something
A different point of view

Electric

Axis
Luna Park
The theatre
New London boy

Super

Love etc.

Nonetheless

Undertow

Three album tracks therefore below to the double album title club:

The dictator decides
A different point of view
Metamorphosis

And according to this Very is their most pleasing album, and Very, Elysium and Nonetheless are their most positive!

Btw, beyond album tracks, Actually only crops up in the lyrics to Betrayed.
Woof.

Thank you! It would have taken me years to get all of these :) and despite having literally written a book about Very, this is the first time I've realised that the album title does actually appear in the lyrics, which I think makes it one of only three albums that could conceivably be said to have a title track of sorts (Bilingual and Electric being the others).

Am I right, then, in thinking Introspective, Fundamental and Hotspot are the only PSB albums whose titles have never appeared in a lyric? (Beyond studio albums, of course, there's "disco" in a couple of lyrics, though not sure about "alternative" and almost certainly no instances of the word "discography"?)

Hi! If you expand the search, there's still Relentless, Format, Ultimate and PopArt to look for! And Lost and Agenda also... Plenty of titles and plenty of places/works to enjoy!!! And I'm still looking for a deutch search engine that I heard of in a podcast...
Let's enjoy it all while it lasts.
