Where was I get excited (12'' version) released?

#1 Post by telys »

On which formats was I get excited (12'' version) (the 5:35 lengthed version) released before it was on Further Listening?

I can't seem to find it anywhere on the different formats of the Heart (7'' or 12'') single.

The full length unfaded version appeared for the first time on the further listening disc.

I'm guessing the version on the B-side of 'Heart' was faded out due to the chart rules at the time - I think this was when a CD single couldn't be longer than 20 minutes in total length.

On the 'Heart' CD single and 12" 'I Get Excited' is 4:56, and the total length is 19:33. If they'd used the full 5:36 version, the total running time would have been 20:13 - so guess they had to edit or fade out one of the three tracks.

I much prefer the version that doesn't fade out - has a great ending!

I don’t think this theory works. Don’t forget it was faded out on the 7 inch too. I suspect they just decided they thought it was too OTT and needed to fade out sooner. They did the same with I Want To Wake Up on Actually.

Nah, the 1987 CD single for Frankie goes to Hollywood's "Warriors" is more than 23 minutes:

It had no other song on it though. Chart rules were different if the format only had remixes of the title track and nothing else.

'Heart' came out in 1988. Think the chart rules were different by then - same reason they shortened 'The Sound Of The Atom Splitting' on the CD-S/12" in the same year.

That was much later. It wasn't until the 90s when DJs and record companies complained that they couldn't release all the remixes of one song on a CD single. Then there was a rule that a CD single could be up to 40 mins long if it only contained remixes of the one song. In the late 80s / early 90s, they limited the running times of all CD singles and 12" singles to 20 mins - at least in the UK.

Ignore me… you are right… the longer singles with only remixes thing didn’t start ‘till 1991. There was a blanket 20 min rule back in 1987/88 for all formats, including CD. Exceptions/mistakes were made at times, but not for that FGTH CD… which wouldn’t have counted towards single sales (IIRC that was the first “miss” chart wise for Frankie, not making the top 10, although I like that song a lot).

Hang on… that Frankie single was 1986… no CDs counted towards the charts at all back then, did they? So total track length was irrelevant.

Warriors CD single was commercially available, at least here in the Netherlands. It was the first CDS I bought.

But it means that the version on Further Listening should be listed as "Previously unreleased".

“Original” Bobby O version is around on various you tube uploads (4.46)

The 7” B Side is on Alternative and the Heart CD single (4.56)
The full length version is on Introspective Further Listening (5.36)
The unreleased 12” mix (6.02) can be found on “aurally 3”.
