Disco 5 (release date: 21st November 2025)

Got mine earlier this week, and I like it much more than I thought I would! I'm in general not too impressed by their remixes and I found Disco 4 quite dull, but to be honest I haven't always given their remixes more than 1-2 plays.

Disco 5 works quite well, I liked some of the remixes even on the first listen. When I played it the 2nd time, I found even the Tina Turner remix to be quite good. Now i like all tracks. I never got that far with Disco 4, even though I like the Madonna remix and to Yoko Ono one (or at least one of the original remixes, can't remember if I liked the one on D4).

I guess they have gotten better at it! I did not expect that, especially since I'm not too keen on their remixes of their own songs with hour-long 909 snare rolls etc

I must say, having finally heard the original bin fire that’s the Tina turner song, they’ve actually turned it into something. It’s not great but the source material is woeful.

Disco 4 has some low points: Read My Mind and Hooked on Radiation. But to me it's more about the low quality of the source material. They already had Let the music play, Mope, Love to love you baby and Girls&Boys at this moment and could have replaced with any of them.

Well, if this is the case I guess the remix of Read My Mind is good but the song is to my ears total crap. Flower's vocal is weak and the song is very generic, posturing, no real content.

Oh the West End girls should be called the 'PSB Deconstruction mix'. What a fabulous way to tear down and rebuild your biggest hit and turn it into something completely different and at the same time make it relevant again 40 years after its release.

It's surprisingly good, isn't it? I find a lot of their remixes for other artists bland and uninspiring, but they seemed to be invigorated by revisiting West End Girls.

It's surprisingly good, isn't it? I find a lot of their remixes for other artists bland and uninspiring, but they seemed to be invigorated by revisiting West End Girls.

The Lockdown mix is more of a deconstruction. I do like the Sleafords remix though. I see it as PSB showing that the song can be redone in an original way. "See, this is how you pay homage to a classic without just ripping it off directly".
I do like the new elements, and the overall sort of grim vibe. The sampling of "yeah!" is kinda fun.
Also the remix seems like a power move. "Yeah you can cover our song, but we'll do a better version of your version."

Yep. I do wonder how the Japanese bonus track will be released.
So far every Japanese bonus track has had a later wide release. The Way Through The Woods (short version) and Clean Air Hybrid Electric Bus.
Who knows if and when Ich Bin Music (Pet Shop Boys Remix) 4:49 will be released widely. Currently it's probably the most obscure and hard to come by song by PSB. Not many others are exclusive to CD, and the ones that are have been shared online.
I'm looking forward to hearing it, but I'm not expecting much.

The first statement isn't quite correct...
Note that there's also the instrumental version of "The way through the woods" which is probably among the rarest Japanese bonus tracks at this point, probably after the original Extended Version of "This must be the place..." Others that come to mind are the Boys Noize Dub of "Axis" (this is barely different to the original mix, trust me), and the Sex Mix of "Love etc."
