In twenty days….

#1 Post by tottenhammattspurs »

It’s exactly 40 years to the day of Please getting released. Where’s the super deluxe edition? Where’s the 5.1/dolby surround blu ray? Where’s the vinyl box set? Where's the 12” re-release campaign? Where’s ANYTHING to celebrate this milestone? There’s going to be less of us around if they hold out for 50th anniversaries.
is is and isnt isnt

A vinyl box set featuring the album + all 12” from that period would be amazing. But at this precise moment the lack of promotion does not set the right mood for that…we’ll see…

they don't like looking back.

no point in getting your hopes up,
when its unlikely to happen.

sure it would be great.

but they have a lot more going on now to deal with.

Ultravox have showed the way with some seriously impressive 40th (or thereabouts) anniversary super deluxe multi-disc album re-releases. PSB should follow suit. We'd lap them up.

They don't like looking back is a bold affirmation when they have been touring Dreamworld for 4 years now and launched a "Since 1984" product line...

Don’t you think they’ve chosen to mark the anniversary with a special series of concerts? They’ve even put a 1986 photo on the Obscure artwork. And then you’ve got Volume - their 40 year visual history (also, incidentally, with a 1986 cover photo). As you would expect, Pet Shop Boys have just taken a more creative approach to marking the moment.

We know that they regard the Further Listening editions of the albums as definitive so there’s no use in us hoping they will revisit the barrel to throw up some curios of lesser quality.

I am sure that their singles will eventually appear on streaming and that that campaign may throw up physical reissues too - but there’s no reason that needs to coincide with an anniversary. As Chris has said, it’s always the anniversary of something.

I do reckon the forthcoming burst of activity (Obscure / Volume / Musik / 100 Lyrics) will throw up further announcements around imminent releases so like you I will keep my fingers crossed. We already know A Man From The Future is on its way which surely trumps any Reissue From The Past.
Woof.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of their debut album 'Please', Pet Shop Boys are now taking preorders for their limited edition t-shirt.

Be careful what you wish for!

They only recently reissued their first six albums on Gatefold CD. I'd be really torn about buying Please again in some sort of NewOrder-esque box set. I'm sort of hoping it doesn't happen.

I'd rather see the back catalogue on streaming.

2026 it’s going to be Disco’s 40th as well… so why not a vinyl box set with both albums + 12-inch singles? Adding some remixes in a physical format (eg Suburbia the Arthur Baker remixes) would help to make it more interesting. But sincerely, I don’t see it coming.

dreamworld and touring is a totally different issue.

also a few years barely counts as looking back.

compared to 40+ years.

exactly how many things have come out in the 1984 product line - a tshirt
