I always thought Neil and Chris write songs that feel dramatic and emotionally charged without explicitly naming the underlying subject.The ambiguity itself is part of the art. Neil often writes lyrics more like a novelist — observing characters from the outside rather than speaking directly as himself, which is why even after coming out, his lyrics still feel elliptical and theatrical.
