A viewpoint of celebrity fans

I was looking for a relevant existing thread and couldn't find anything.

Taking a lead from Wayne's wonderful list of celebrity PSB fans (link here - http://www.geowayne.com/newDesign/lists/celebfans.htm) I've long thought that many well known people were less keen to come forward as PSB fans earlier in their careers - my supposition that the Boys weren't deemed to be "cool" by the target audiences of the famous people who were their fans.

PSB are now a heritage band, part of the fabric of British music history, so it's much easier (and has a certain cache) for someone to claim they were always a fan, but who actually came forward and said that back in their heyday? I find it rather fickle when people have only come forward in the past 10-20 years even. Why didn't you say that in the 90's or even the early 2000's?

Robbie Williams' "Rudebox" is 20 years old and he didn't really wear his PSB fandom on his sleeve until then as far as I am aware (his cover of I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing was a b-side around 1997 I believe and could be seen a bit of a curio rather than an all out declaration of fandom).

It's like there were all these people who were closet fans, and didn't really (want to) admit it until much much later.

I remember speaking to Robbie in the very early days of Take That when doing the nightclub circuit, and we chatted about PSB and he seemed quite a fan then. So have to agree he didn’t come across as a ‘closet’ fan.

I don't really agree with the spirit of this thread, let's call out and shame any famous person who praises PSB because they should have done it sooner. What exactly is this meant to achieve. I gladly welcome any and all celebrities to say nice things about PSB even if they didn't in previous decades.

I see Chris Addison was at Obscure and seemed to post from the crowd rather than the VIP area.

Gary's producer Johnny Kalifornia is also a huge fan.
