He's often talked about wearing high-heeled shoes at the time, but whether they were stilettos or not... sounds oddly specific to me.

Hey Corina Image it’s my video, I posted it this morning. Inspired by this:

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2024/ ... SApp_Other

“New London Boy updates Bowie’s The London Boys as Tennant’s origin story, documenting his move to London in the early 70s, where the red-haired, stiletto-wearing graduate got a job in the manuscripts department of the British Museum.”

Didn't he wear them when he lived in Tottenham?

I always imagined blocky platform heels, which were (literally) big in the glam rock scene which Neil enjoyed, rather than stilettos.

Did + infinitive (Did he WEAR?)

not

Did + last participle (Did he worn?)

Yes, you are right! Thank you 😊
My English is quite good, but I make mistakes from time to time.

Nope, he's only ever talked about wearing six-inch platform heels, not stilettos. And they were two sizes too small at that. Which sounds like bloody agony and I'm amazed he can still walk.

You try thundering downstairs - or even worse, escalators - in six-inch stilettos and see how many pins you end up with in your ankles. :D

I can fall over whilst standing still, wearing trainers, on flat ground. I can't actually fit my foot into most shoes now 🤣

I went to a musical called Stiletto that meant daggers rather than high heels, of course as you probably know the shoes are named after the weapon! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stiletto_heel

Who knows?
He just might be one of those Tall Thin Men!
Maybe Neil does have a pair (or two!) of stilettos in his closet but we'll never see them to know for sure!

Now there's a visual we never knew we needed.

I had to go back and fact-check myself after this discussion but I can still only find references to "platform" not "stiletto" (see, amongst other things, the "Being Boring" entry in 100 Lyrics), and platforms in the 70s were typically those chunky block (or even wedge) heels. Has anyone ever seen a reference to stilettos outside this article?
