It was taking from an old Spanish TV show called "Entre Amigos" and the host is José Luis Moreno (director, producer, show-runner, TV host, actor and a really good ventriloquist and comedian). Some years later it was known he was gay.

When he makes the speech of introduction, he talks about what kids were saying about Pet Shop Boys when adults asked to them their opinions about the duo. The kids said: "son guays" ("they are cool"). I really believe Moreno wanted to make a joke with the phonetic sound of "guays" and "gays" which in Spain people used to pronounce in a similar way.

At that time, some people thought Chris was married just because he had a ring on one finger from his hand. You can see that in the video.
