Track-by-Track: From Please to Nonetheless

I love this track. It brought me right back into the PSB fandom (after the very good Disco 3 release). I remember quite clearly when I first heard the track and immediately fell in love with it. Obviously it borrows a lot from Madonna's Frozen, but it's as PSB as can be.

The 2012 Salford live version is great too, as well as the whole single package: the single mix, a great extended mix and to fantastic b-sides.

Track 171 : Miracles Further Listening Release CD2 :11

A masterpiece—one of the group's top five tracks.
Pure poetry, worthy of being displayed in a museum. There is a volume distortion in the middle of the song that has always struck me as a bit odd. Even so, it’s a track that borders on perfection!

Another one that’s grown on me over the last couple of years. I do appreciate an earnest love song. I wonder why Neil didn’t put this one in the book though because it does read quite poetically.

Video is just lovely. I’m a sucker for slo-mo water droplets.

Because of this thread I decided to listen to the 2012 Salford concert. When the choir starts to sing "miracles happen" at the end... wow.

And is it me or is it a mixing error at 2:50? The harp can be heard on the right, but then suddenly you can also hear it on the left channel, like if someone finally found the right button on the mixing table

Yes, a mixing error apparently.

I'm unsure if it was ever rectified in subsequent remasterings... I don't believe it has been.

"Flamboyant" is good, but "Miracles" is on another level. The Pet Shop Boys in their prime—and that means the best pop music on the planet. They don't hit that peak quite as often as they did during their "Imperial Phase" (which I always consider to run up through the *Very* album), but they still manage to reach it.

The collaboration isn't bad, but I prefer Dusty's original. The collaborations between PSB and Elton don't quite win me over, despite what great artists they both are.

This is the worst Pet Shop Boys recording ever.

I don't say it's the worst "song", because the song itself is an amazing song and their original collaboration with Dusty is gold.

However, this is shit smeared on the side of a toilet bowl in a late night karaoke bar.

I echo the above. Dusty's version shows how brilliant they were at their peak, able to give Dusty a song like this.

The Elton version still seems like some kind of wind-up.
