I don’t disagree. But does anyone seriously expect them to release another It’s a Sin as a free YouTube stream? This is a sketch made several years ago and no considered worth commercially releasing at the time. It’s a peek under the hood of their demo-and-reject process that was only posted because of the election.

Obviously not. I think it’s great that they release a free song—whether I end up liking it a lot or a little is another matter... But if they don't release it, there’s absolutely no chance of me liking it at all. They’ve been releasing music for 40 years, and at this point, I view any new music they put out as a bonus—as a gift.

It's the second time they do that.

They know these songs about Putin are not big ones, they don't have enough quality even for a b-side but they enjoy doing that and set them free for their fans which I think is nice.

Too much time left for a new proper studio album, so you can enjoy with these tunes but I'm sure they are not going to be listened on repeat in your playlist.

They're such boomers. Neil is like your boring Facebook uncle who once watched a documentary about how scurrilous Putin is and whenever anything political comes up always brings it back to that. I miss the Fundamental days.

One angle that occured to me is that European monarchs used to be considered as next to godly and were served by courtiers serving their every need, including their toiletting arrangements. In the Tudor period in Britain there was, for example, a Groom of the Stool. So perhaps the lyrics suggests that the Russian President and his lackeys are a part of a dismal history across Europe of deference to tyrants.

I haven't actually listened to yet but I'm looking forward to hearing that bassline!

I preferred it back in the day when we got the single, b-side and some remixes. I genuinely don't want to hear every thought they have ever had - give me the final versions that passed through quality control, and demos of those if you must. Less is more.
