Smash as a title has shades of Super and Hotspot. A naff word which has returned to modern parlance with new meaning. It’s brash and in your face, as is the artwork, which seems to make more sense when you see the inner sleeves. I think it’s divisive here because it has little in common with the imperial phase packaging with all that lovely white space and I wonder if that might trip them up slightly. It’s the PSB catalogue, but it’s their 2023 presentation. It’s hard to conclude who it’s aimed at.
Personally never liked any of the greatest hits designs besides the minimalism of Discography.
But I'm ok with the boldness of Smash. It's certainly different and given the amount of content, the design sorta matches by being very loud. Will be an easy sell on tour, I imagine.
If they ever do a boxset I'd hope for something more plain though I'd rather it just document images of the time, rather than all the blurry stuff.
And I guess that's one thing achieved here .... the bold blurry design does keep hardcore fans waiting for something more traditional and documentary.
This might be the first of their releases i don't bother with, like everyone else on here i have every single track on Smash so struggling to find a reason why to purchase it...apart from the Blu Ray videos but even they are available elsewhere.
Think this release is not for the uber fans on here but more for the fly by night night Dreamworld ticket buyer, i can't wait for the new album ...This all seems a bit lazy to me and very unlike the boys if i am being honest, i can see why they have done it but this collection really needed something new for us fans to buy into as well
As someone who has a lot of psb items I have still pre ordered the white vinyl along with the cd/dvd/t shirt bundle. If the singles box set happens it will be when Chris and Neil can’t be arsed to do any more. I don’t think they will retire and will do one off gigs here and there and may still remix other artists. Personally the album cover looks great and let’s see where it charts. I hope cd1 is mastered to sound louder than the original discography. If some people chose not to buy it that’s your choice.

Not a fan of the blurred/vertigo style artwork, and I'd rather the CD edition extend to four CDs and be a bit more comprehensive... you know the ones that are missing as well as I do.
That said, given how pricey Discography is on vinyl nowadays, I think I'll get the vinyl edition in lieu of it. The first two records are basically a remastered version of Discography. Will probably relent and get the 3CD/BluRay edition too, since I'm guessing it will be deleted soon enough, leaving only the 3CD edition (ala Ultimate).

Is this a US singles collection ? Why do we have the US radio edit of New York City Boy here ?
They seem to have followed a logic of UK singles only by not including anything released in other territories like Seriously, London or Beautiful People. So we should not have anything US in the collection. Where's the UK single version of NYC Boy ?

For the first time since 1999 I won't be buying a PSB album. If I had a Blu-ray player I may have forked out for the five-disc but what's the point just to get a handful of pretty crappy recent videos that we can see online? I would have bought the three cd version if there was anything new on it but there isn't, so there's really no need. The only thing of interest would be the text accompanying each track but I'm not going to pay for words.
This is a superb release for casual listeners or those who stopped listening after the hit years, but it's not for me.

They included the US edit of New York city boy on PopArt and Ultimate too. I assume as it's nearly a minute shorter than the UK radio edit it allows them to fit other tracks on the CD.
The white vynil edition is too expensive, since I live in Brazil. Maybe I'll get the CD+BR. The regular vynil edition is pointless, if it has the white one.

Sorry to say this but this seems like pure and unnecessary greed on their part. True fans have all this already and can't see anyone else paying for all this.
