Yes, plus if they weren't withdrawn, you wouldve found them in most record stores but you couldn't find them anywhere. My point (and perhaps a complain) about auctions so called "rip-off"s is that the initial bid is usually higher than the value of that good itself anywhere else.
Great auctions can start at a low price and than finish more expensive than rip-off auctions... simply because everybody will bid.
But it's just my opinion...

If people want to pay through the nose for an item, that's entirely up to them, and as the final price is dictated entirely by market forces (ie it only rises if more than one person is bidding and therefore push the price up) how can it be a rip-off?

However, we must consider the expression market forces. I think it means "how much the market says a good is".
In PSB case (and might be the same case as some other artist), there is too much speculation... a monopoly speculation. I mean, one of the most expensive sellers on Ebay is the same guy who made a site with the 250 most expensive PSB goods quotation. And all driven by those voices in his head, aka, "reliable sources"...
For example, if that source of information tells you that Release cassete is about U$ 30, would you pay U$ 100 for that? (even if the good is really rare) So, in this case I can say "information is power"... and it surely can drive those market forces. So, the conclusion is: "information is price".
And regarding price rising, it's great and should happen when people keep biding. However my complain is that some auctions start with prices beyond the edge of reasonable.
But, at the end of the day, it's just my opinion... like you and TTM said, one is on his right to sell a trash can for a thousand dollars and if a bidder find it atractive and if he have money he'll buy it...

I must admit that I am finding that e-bay is beggining to change in that there are more expensive buy it now than before and also the ebay shop with companies like eil seem to be on the increase. Much harder to find a bargain now and there is a number of stuff that I wish I had brought before which I didn't and is now way too expensive.
When it comes to sellers putting their stuff for sale with high prices, of course it is up to them but the risk is that the item does not sell and the ebay charges they pay to list the item will end up being high, so it works both ways to a degree.
Personally when I sell on ebay I try to put a price as near to what I am willing to let the item go for as possible, and normally I end up getting more than I thought anyway.
Back to the cassette, I have also always thought that why is it just because something is rare or made in small numbers, should it be worth so much money? I mean the release cassette is nothing special at all just the normal album (which we all love of course!) so I imagine it is just the mad people who must have at least one of everything who will pay whatever.

You have a point. When Ebay opened its space to "real" stores like Eil, they thought about revenue assurance. However they forgot the real meaning of the online auction and they are becoming a "home" for online stores and then, rising prices. The real damaged are ourselves, who don't have those bargains we did couple years ago.
