I think Elton John is the best thing about it!

And no, I'm not an Elton John "fan", I don't have any of his records and I only know that Are Your Ready For Love song from t'other year and his cover of Pinball Wizard.

Elton John is a much stronger vocalist than Dusty Springfield. Most of his material is dreadful however.

It's strange that people hate the backing music so much, yet the incredibly dated Ressurectionist seems to popular here.

I love the Elton John/PSB version of "In Private" and it puzzles me why so many of you hate it. Elton is indeed a strong vocalist and sings perfectly and believably. I just think many of you are nostalgic. Often the first version seems better. I however, heard Dusty's version of "In Private" after I heard Elton's. Besides, I love Elton John. It's an honor for PSB to have Elton on their records.

I agree that the backing on the new version is rather cheesy, however I prefer it to the old version because that was just too 70s disco / funky for my taste.
I think they tried to do what they did with Go West... take a funky disco tune and turn it into something you can listen to...

Hmm I read " It's a horror for PSB to have Elton on their records" and I 100% agreed.

The version sung by 2 man making it a gay item works very well I think. I prefer Dusty's version any time but there are some aspects of it i like very much. It has a good energy over it. If only they would have taken more time to proper record and produce it.It sounds like it was done in a hurry and that is never a good thing.

Hell this is a great version! Don't compare against the original, it's not comparable. Its a completely different version. Its unashamedly big gay pop at its very best. If they had just re-done the original version exactly the same but with a different singer to Dusty, then yes, you could compare the two, but they haven't. The sound, the production, everything is different and if you take it as it is, a cheesytastic, get off your ass and dance tune, then it is fantastic!

It's different. It now sounds very camp... much more than usual!

You can't replace the Dusty version though, it's simply a classic.

Completely agree! Thank you for expressing that so eloquently...! I think the song is a great driving track, especially on a gorgeous day with the windows down... LOVE the bass line too!

I think to get the best of of the track is to not compare it to the Dusty version

I like both of them for different reasons. The new production makes it into a completely different experience from the original.

For God's sake, this is a man (?) that's even made records with Cliff Richard and Ru Paul. PSB are hardly in esteemed company.
