Anyone else prefer the new In Private to the Dusty one?

I didn't like it at first, but now I love it!

I think the fact that it's two men singing it gives it more of an edge than the original, especially the "When you run back to your wife" bit. And for this reason I think the rather G-A-Y backing music actually works really well, as the married man is living a secret gay life.

Please give reasons as to why you prefer the Dusty or Elton versions.

The Dusty version is a classic pop single.

What's wrong with the PSB/Elton version? Just about everything. The production is throwaway cheesy trancepop, undoubtedly done in 5-10 minutes - an insult to the more sophisticated production of the orginal. The vocals are horrific, sounding like they were recorded in one take after a long night out on town.

Frankly, it sounds like is one of those bachelor party karaoke recordings, that you give away to friends (and foes) at your wedding.

Having said all that, it is still fairly enjoyable, despite it's objective horrificness.

Hell no. Dusty's version is great... the new one is a drunk karaoke disaster

I like both, but the Dusty version is a zillion times better. The new version is just a bit of fun.

Dusty's version is miles better, in every possible way. Production, voice, style... The song was written to be sung by her.

Well, the version of Fundamentalism is a mix of the new version, I believe nobody has heard this new version. Comparing with the mix, I prefer the Dusty's one.

Yes, it's horrible!

If it's true that a promo of In private mixes will be out next week, I bet the Tomcraft one is a zillion times better!

Dusty's version isn't just better the PSB / Elton's version, but also one of the greatest songs of the 80's. Specially Shep's remix.

Anyway I quite like the PSB / Elton's version.

I agree that the "trance", "eurodisco" whatever-you-like-to-call-it backing is a bit... simple to say the least. After the middle eight, which I think is the best part in this version, I would like to hear something more than just that silly beat changing chords. It's just so unimaginative. Of course it's still a great song, but they should have done something better with it. The original with Dusty is still the best version.

One thing I think sounds very strange about this recording is that just when Neil and Elton sing the line "in private"... it sounds like one of them doesn't? They don't appear to sing it the same way; when Elton clearly sings "private", it sounds Neil just go "aah" or something in the background...

Another curious detail I have noticed, is that in the last verse it sounds like Neil is backed up by a female voice. At least someone who isn't Neil or Elton. Who is it?

Good god, it was so bad I could only bring myself to listen to it once. Started alright, then was aghast at that voice. Eurgh.

How could they desecrate such a perfect song (i.e. version with Dusty) with that other one. The original In Private was perfect on so many levels - voice, music, 'seriousness' of the song. This one is a parody of what was an excellent track. Jesus, I wish they'd give it a rest with using (or wanting to work with) crap Elton and crap Robbie Williams. Eurgh.

I like the new one except for one thing. 'Ol Sausage Fingers voice. It is AWFUL.

Get your tin hat on mate, The original is an absolute classic and as has been said a perfect pop song, The new one on the other hand is harsh, loud offensive to the ears and Elton John's screaming shouting vocals do nothing for the song...as for the rave music back beat sigh!.
The song is not even close to matching the 12" Dusty Extended version.

Elton John makes more guest appearances on other artists' albums than anybody else in the world. It is ok we have it behind now, and great it is not on the main album. It could have been worse, like him singing 'Casanova In Hell' with Neil or screaming 'minimal, minimal'.
