Hello my name is Neil Tennant and I'm Chris Lowe and we're of the Pet Shop Boys.

It seems really mad that just three or four years earlier they could scarcely put out a single without it going to number one; they seem so alien to it all (and I don't mean that negatively). I remember watching them on SMTV with Ant and Dec when New York City Boy came out and thinking they seemed about 800 years old but maybe they've just always been like that.
This is the previous year's appearance. Chatting about Bruce Weber, Bobby O and Divine with Gordon the Gopher behind Neil's head. Watching these, I do appreciate the calm demeanour of Sarah Greene. As we transitioned into the 90s, that kind of presenting went out of fashion and everyone became far louder and less thoughtful.

...mirroring the world of pop music.

Greene is as out of place there as Neil and Chris. 1991 was a really good year for pop music as the Now Yearbook and its Extra for that year demonstrate (even if it still misses off a pile of great records). But it was also a year of seismic shifts. Pretty much anything from the 80s was declared passe overnight - unless you were Simply Red peddling tedious, MOR "soul" from a non-threatening perspective.

Id love to see the 1988 appearance where they take Booblys (?) in. They give away the proof for the sleeve of the unreleased Devices Remix, the harlequin sleeve.
That (non existent) record lives on in my dreams.
I may be wrong
