Hmmm., thats not a bad line (considering the fact that Chris SPEAKS it)
But Paninaro has one VERY sad part that i like
"Now you've gone, I'm all alone,
my heart is broken and I wanna' go home
Your love is all over, your hours of luck,
you feel so lonely you wanna self-destruct
Needed you, you loved me, too.
And now i dont know, what I'm gonna do "
(hope its right)

I'm always hoping
You'll be faithful
But you're not I suppose
We've both given up smoking
'Cos it's fatal
So whose matches are those?

Definitely...
At night it hits me cold
There's so much more to life than I'll every know

I look from my window down to the square
at workers still queuing patiently there
for market forces to provide what history's so far denied
for a different kind of fate
than to labour long and always fate
The man at the back of the queue was sent
to feel the smack of firm government
Lingered by the fly poster for a fight
It's the same story everynight
(there are not many better than Neil when taking stabs at social texture when he is at the top of his game- Bono, go and eat your heart)
"I dont speak in anger, though the chances I have let, pass me by I now regret, I cant forget, their haunting me, like a score of unpaid debts" (such insight-the first and the last time I cried over a lyric)
"All the love that we had and the love that we hide, who will bury us, when we die?" (a universal classic)
The most hilarious one:
"I haven't got a job to pay/ but I could stay in bed all day"
And I love Neil's paradoxical titles:
"This must be the place I waited for years to leave"
"I don't know what you want but I can't give it anymore"

He looks so sweet there, looking at the camera ( can´t believe it)

Will tears at last precede the turn

too cold to walk alone

you know what I mean
push me in a corner
and I'll scream"

Just when you least expect it, just what you least expect.
You're always tellings lies and that's the only truth.
If I was you, if I was you, I wouldn't treat me the way you do.
I thought that when we fought I was the one to blame.

I more or less fel haunted by the Pet Shop boys sometimes when I hear their lyrics, maybe partly because I want it to be so, of course, but really, somtimes they ARE describing MY life! As so many people here have already stated, there are just too many lines of great lyrics to pick out just ONE, really, but since the whole of Release described my once-in-a-lifetime-love-experience (with the exception of TSIA and NIFIL, of course), ironically, it's "I didn't get where I am today" which sums up that entire relationship, from which the following line stands out most and is most fited to describe it all:
Told everyone I'm over it
I've quit this cul-de-sac
but just when I thought I'd lost it for good
that feeling comes right back"
...wish I'D written that since it's about me anyways.

The PSB don't go out saying: HEY WE'RE POETS! Yet they write great lyrics.
BEING BORING is a favourite, because it deals with the subject of the passing of time, the coming of old age and the loss of friends/lovers because of AIDS.
DOMINO DANCING is another favourite because it is about an unfaithfull partner and the danger of AIDS (1989).
I like THE NIGHT I FEEL IN LOVE, BETWEEN 2 ISLANDS and THE BOY WHO COULD KEEP HIS CLOTHES ON because they are 3 short stories.
WEST END GIRLS because of its urban madness.
ONLY THE WIND because of its loneliness.
LOVE COMES QUICKLY... a happy lyric ingrained in such a sad song.
I'M NOT SCARED... a dark and mysterious relationship.
OPPORTUNITIES LET'S MAKE LOTS OF MONEY (in my head : a rock band thinking).
LOVE'S A CATASTROPHE... a reality for many people
YOU CHOOSE... clever lyrics
plus...
...we've both given up smoking... so whose matches are those?
