The general perception of PSB before Neil came out?

PSB defintely did better in the US through the Introspective period (although Introspective was only top 40 while Please was top 10 and Actually I believe was top 30 (although they had 3 top 5 singles off it)). I'm not sure whether this was due to the strength of their material and how it coinicided with the "pop" sound going on in the US at the time or the perception of their sexuality...

It may be an uban myth, but I understood only one of the Village People was actually gay. I'm sure their Bob Saunders-like svengali was though. (Jaques Morali? Or something like that...)

In fact the members of Village People were not gay. I've read and heard somewhere that all of them were straight men. The group was just conceived to appear as a "gay act".

What does it matter, as long as the music is great! I am heterosexual myself, but my record collection does in fact include a big lot of "gay" music: PSB, Erasure, Magnetic Fields, Queen, R.E.M., Rufus Wainwright, Morrissey (whatever he is...) + I like ABBA and Eurovision Song Contest...

Actually one of the Village People was gay. The other ones were straight.

as much as i like the smiths, being a smiths fan is quite.....dull...they're everybody's darlings
and you get lost among the millions of fans. i'm glad the psb are more of an acquired taste that i don't have to share with so many other people. being a pethead is so much more exciting.

I wonder why I always start to like artists who are or have been treated as "uncool". The same as PSB applies to ABBA and many Eurovision Song Contest artists.

Perhaps it's because I don't like ROCK music. I'm looking for a completely different credibility. And I hope that Neil and Chris hate rock music enough never to make it themselves...!
