I don't question other fans' loyalty. I don't care to which level people are PSB fans.
gareth wrote:Many people will be pleased to see this particular collection on one CD but because you think it's a bad idea because you already have most of them you can't stand it and more importantly want it to fail. It's the final point which I find incredible.
Why are you so sure about many people being pleased? Check back the Disco 4 tracklisting topic, to read a storm of negative, disappointed reactions. I didn't say I can't stand Disco 4, I think it's a very bad idea: it doesn't cater for many fans, and non-fans don't care at all. I already explained why I hope it won't be successful.
Like i said before, i think it ges a bit deeper than fans being dissapointed with the track list. I think the real frustration is no Integral single and the fact it's not like Disco 3.

A good point was made a few posts back about PSB catering for casual fans. I don't have a problem with them doing it at all. The Disco's are a bonus. Some will be pleased, others wont be.

If PSB's next studio album was panpipes, then i could understand the backlash but this is simply a bonus release aimed outside the fanbase. It really isn't such a big deal. All IMO, of course.

I agree with Disco 4 "not being such a big deal". Perhaps it's not such a great idea, but I don't think it's awful, and I will certainly buy it. I'm more than happy to do that. That's the least I can do.

Not all of them. Nor Minimal.
As for the extra Integral remixes, my theory is that PSB had planned a single release which EMI pulled.
Fan club CD or hand them out free to scalpers? Hmmm.

gareth: "That's the thanks they get for 20+ years of constantly surprising us, doing things differently, releasing innovative product that has never followed the flock, staging fantastic (expensive) stage productions and most importantly writing and recording wonderful music that makes us all happy."

I believe their houses, art collections and 50 million sales are the thanks they get.

What's saddest about all the moaning about how Neil and Chris have betrayed us/slept with our fathers/collaborated with the Nazis is that there will come a day when they no longer release music. Then the halcyon days of epistemological fascists complaining about How can you expect....? not being on PopArt and Disco 4 not including twelve new songs will seem a long way away indeed.

Janet told us the sad but true fact. I can't even bear to think about those days to come. I'm just happy that Neil and Chris are working and releasing stuff now.

Why do you want a PSB album to flop, after writing all these songs and thats what they get?? How can you call yourself a fan..

Perhaps you should try to learn what 'signal words' are. The word "therefore" usually points out a conclusion. If you erase everything BEFORE the word "therefore" when you quote me, it's hard to take you seriously.
Yea, I know why you want it to flop, but the main emphasis off my sentence was "How can you call yourself a fan" :D

Yes, a band in their 50ies still writing music and touches the mainstream public (kinda  ) we should be thankful.... but Clearly DVTB wants a few new songs in Disco 4... but in retrospect it would be good if Pet Shop Boys did release few new songs in Disco 4 (just to stop DVTB's whining)

dVTB wrote:I appreciate every new album, every new song I get to hear. I just don't appreciate completely useless releases like Disco 4. In fact many, many fans don't: viewtopic.php?t=17182

As a fan, I want as many new songs, new remixes and new albums as possible, and I'm willing to pay the price for that. I also want as little as possible compilations like Disco 4, which is exactly why I hope it will flop. The less fans who buy this album right after its release, the clearer the signal will be.
It's the sheer Pooterish self-importance of these 'many fans' that is so funny. Disco 4 is better than Disco 2 and it's got a cool cover, it'll probably cost me £8.99 and I doubt my life will be hugely affected by either buying or not buying it. It's a stop-gap mid-price PSB album, not the Rosetta Stone.
