On another matter, this is the only forum I have ever been a part of and I am going to have to leave it. I never realised people could be so nasty to one another when the subject matter themselves, Neil and Chris, are allegedly loved by all on here. Kudos to the moderators for trying to filter the idiotic comments out, but I am so tired of the seemingly constant passive aggressiveness by some people. Never mind. I find it really upsetting. Maybe that's my autism kicking in, maybe it's just a sense of humanity.
Enjoy the new album everyone. Even at age 51, I am still so very excited about it and ecstatic that Parlophone have clearly pumped a bit of money into the marketing....
Scousepsbfan … don’t pull the trigger just yet!
I posted similar on another thread but I am hoping this nastiness that has become evident over the last few weeks is a passing phase and hopefully we are at the end of it.
With the new album literally around the corner I for one can’t wait to share the experience with fellow fans … hearing views of other petheads expressed here whether positive or negative about the new material is something I look forward to.

I only joined the forum recently, despite viewing it for many years, and the main reason I hadn't joined previously was the issues with people posting things we have seen in the last few days.
The forum is on the whole absolutely brilliant. It brings people together from around the world with a common love of the boys and their music. It also ( very occasionally) brings out the worst in people, because like all social media sites it is very easy to make unpleasant comments when nobody can see who you are, and you can't be held to account for it. Things can also get misunderstood in text, or language differences, which can also be the cause.
I do fundamentaly think that the vast majority of people on here on true PSB fans, and lovely people, and so it would be a great shame if we lost some of those, leaving the forum because of the small minority. Hang on in there!

You didn't need to remove my comment. It was just a tribute to Sir Lindsay Hoyle...

Dancing star started out as a Chris track about being at the beach hence the waves on it. He even did a vocal for it originally. Would love to hear that demo version.

I've deleted my previous post. I realise it was too aggressive and over the top. I should had just ignored NN posts. I don't think it contributed anything positive to the forum and I apologise for that.
Having said this, I would like to know what you all feel about the full retro sound.
Psb have never been retro and I don't really understand new "normal" rock bands that just recreate a sound decades old without adding anything new to it. It's not something I would do.
You could argue PSB, in a way, own that sound even if they never went back to it once technology and styles evolved. Very doesn't sound anything like Please or Introspective. Electric doesn't sound anything like Very or Bilingual.
So I'm torn about this song. I just love it. At face vaIue, I think it's one of their best singles in years. That chorus is a killer. But the retro sound, being a 100% recreation of an old style puzzles me. Psb always seemed to look towards the future, or at least the latest trends and make them their own.
Anyway, I just had a 3 hour flight which I spent listening to the single, b-sides and remixes on repeat. This is a very, very solid release. Hoping for many more to come!

Really nice video and lovely to see the boys putting in a proper appearance!
The vintage footage of Amalfi and London are lovely
I do wish there were less of the overlaid effects of Nureyev … would be nice to have a moment to just see him dance without the visual distractions and perhaps a close up of his face at the end
Good to see that black coat of Neil’s is getting some decent mileage as well
I wish there would be a bit more footage of the 60's, because it's beautiful. There's a lot of cut and it's rather fast.

The radio show today, check that thread or listen to the show. The lyric was something like "stay here forever", about the beach that is.

Neil admitted on today's show that Dancing Star backing track sounds like early Madonna.

The sound is so retro that it’s current!

I’m convinced there’s an intentional connection to the beach sounds at the start of Go West…

Greetings,
Speaking of "the sound" being "retro" I cannot help but feel like the Pet Shop Boys are pulling a "Pavlov's dog" on us here with Dancing Star - we're supposed to hear the 80s synth palette, spoken word sections and syn-percussion and instantly salivate like dogs, even though, unlike in the past, nothing particularly satisfying or substantial has actually been put in front of us on this occasion.
Retro.
