There are no 'right' and 'wrong' sides of the road apart from the opposite side to that which you should drive in whatever country you are driving in.

We'll never drive on the right in this country in our lifetimes, if ever. The cost to change would be absolutely phenomenal.

I'm hoping the cost of changing from miles to km's is prohibitive too. Some things just don't need changing.

in the end it doesn't matter, ID cards or no ID cards... if terrorists want to kill innocents, they will. it's what makes it all so horrific. it's what screams for solutions OTHER than killing even more innocents on THEIR side (so to speak). after a while, it's all reduced to ashes anyway.

drivers' licenses are a form of ID cards, sure. but you aren't required to whip it out and hand it over for a scanner to read your life story to all and sundry. and if you drive drunk, you'd better believe in some form of retribution.

if they want to account for everybody in the country, there are ways to do that other than being intrusive on this scale. I'd rather rot in jail than show my ID card (the kind the UK is introducing) to anybody asking for it just because I happen to look 'suspicious'.

and in no frickin' way would I pay for it.

there's got to be boundaries in each of our lives over which NO ONE can step or we'll be all reduced to wusses for political fearmongering and de-filtering. please, don't be with stupid!

Why ID cards are A Bad Idea:

1) Stupid waste of money
2) Erosion of our civil rights under the pretence of "fighting terrorism" (cos we all know a piece of plastic would have stopped the IRA and the 7/7 bombers, ho ho)
3) Potential for future abuse

Over here the Id card is mandatory. Passport is not (I don't have one...never travelled outside of Europe so I don't really need one) ...and yes I have a driving licence but it is obviously not mandatory....there is no way the driving licence can replace the Id card.

You can't go from Belgium to the UK with just a driving licence. ...you need an Id or a passport. Driving licence is just an accessory in your wallet really...and passport is more expensive than the ID sooooooo......

as outlined previously in this very thread, these are not your garden variety college ID cards.

Are the prospective UK ID cards to be irrevocably tied to UK passports? Apparently the cost for a passport and ID card will be approximately £93 for the two, therefore if you refuse to get an ID card you can't get a passport either. Who could have predicted that a Labour government would be so authoritarian?

In Denmark the first few digits of your ID Card starts with your date of birth!!
