That's not true. Come on, you're talking about a tournament that was won by Greece and Denmark. It's more about application and attitude than talent.
McClaren is not a manager who can get the best out of world-class players, which is why they were beaten by an average bunch of players today. England are crying out for a Wenger or Benitez to take them places.

Undertaker wrote:Some of the points Parkol made are true though because Russia were garbage, as were England. Russia played for 10 minutes and scored twice. England dominated the game but had no cutting edge. Like Danny said, keep the ball and you win. I forgot Wright Phillips was playing. Joe Cole was shite. Rooney scored a great goal and then gave the ball away all the time. He also tried to do everyones job and ended up giving a pen away. Richards spent half the game as a winger. Gerrard bottled it in front of goal. The keeper again failed to push a shot wide of the post.
We was missing our regular left back. There were 3 to choose from to replace him. Franken Neville, who plays centre mid. Lescott who plays centre defence. Nicky Shorey who plays LEFT BACK. Who does McClown pick? Then to top it off, he puts Downing left back in the 2nd half

Gareth Barry could have played left back.

Whats going on with the Republic of Ireland? We all know that even McClown isn't as embarressing as Staunton but Ireland have gone from being a half decent side, to a laughing stock. Even Northern Ireland and Wales are better. They are currently 1-0 down but it could have been 3 or 4. Didn't Cyprus bet them 5 something before?
As for Scotland, maybe after all their strides forward, sooner or later, they were going to take a step backwards. At least they have installed some pride back into Scottish football.

Thats true but moving him would have been dangerous. On current form, it's Gerrards position thats under most threat from Fat Lampard. Gerrard hasn't had a good game for club or country for a while. He must be carrying an injury, or he hasn't fully recovered.

I was wondering who had delivered the kiss of death.

Had we been offered a 'last game to beat Italy to qualify' scenario at the start of our group i'm sure we would have gladly taken it!
Scotland have performed miracles and we'll qualify.
I think England would love to trade places with us.
But then England would have more of a chance of beating Italy than us..
Well with McLaren maybe not!!

That's true. At least we are still in the running at this late stage, instead of being out after 6 games. We have turned the corner at last.

Application and attitude isn't a problem with England, though. We've always played with our hearts and there was no shortage of commitment in Russia today. However, we still lack enough ability tactically and technically in big games. As I mentioned in my previous post, we don't know how to keep the ball when it matters and persist in trying to play at the highest tempo possible, which you can't do always do at international level. Sometimes you have to have to slow the game down, keep possession and take the sting out of the game but today, just as in Portugal in 2004 and in Germany last year, we were too panicky in possession and gave the ball away too cheaply.
You mention Denmark and Greece but both those sides were superbly well organised and had the attributes I mentioned above. Greece, in particular, were fantastic at keeping possession when it mattered and took their chances when they came.
Also, you seem to be alluding to us having world-class players. For me, we only have one at the moment - Michael Owen - and even he relies on others creating chances for him. The likes of Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney could be world-class but have consistently failed to show their club form in an England shirt. Maybe they just aren't as good as people make them out to be.
It's possible that a world-class manager might be able to bring the best out of England but I'm not sure there's anyone out there available at the moment.

The F.A. should get some compo money ready to pay Aston Villa and tempt Martin O'Neill. The man is a genius and that's a Rangers fan. When he was at Celtic he was the bane of my life but I'll readily admit that he is an excellent manager. England could do far, far worse. You DO have the players, they just need to be led.

What a remarkable forum! And what remarkable people have gathered here!
Instead of conducting normal discussion on the suggested theme, some people here prefer to discuss personality of other users. It seems likely that some of you does not suffice brains to give reason for their own position that’s why they prefer to name others “fools”.
By the way don't you remember:

Beware with your bad words to Russia and russian users!

Are you going to agree with some of the things this guy said? Just because you are also Russian! Are you serious? God it is like talking to children, OK here goes, I have nothing against Russia or Russians but some of the things Parkol has said are quite simply out of order. I have a right to say that. So please mind your own business before tying to make pathetic threats! I don't care what country he comes from and so should not you.
"Beware with your bad words to Russia and Russian users" What is that supposed to mean? You need to grow up too. making an idle threat on a psb internet forum, wow you are hard.
