How can it be obvious fact, if there is no proof?
Also, I think you will that, as people are allowed to like more than one band, there will be an overlap. Name virtually any band, and this will be the case - but it does not make them similar artists. I like Genesis as well, but are they similar to PSB? No!

Fugitive, I never said they were "similar artists", what is your obsessions with that? It's Allmusic who says it, not me. However, there are certainly SOME similarities between Etienne and PSB, you must admit, they aren't worlds apart. In fact, St. Etienne is sometimes more like PSB than Depeche Mode.
There is an obvious overlap in the fanbase. How many people in this forum have at least one St. Etienne album? Probably 100+. But again, I don't need proof, because I already know. You are the one who needs it, and you can get it however it works for you, but you're right, I can't be the one to prove it to you.

Can anyone come in here and really say, really tell me that they think the overlap between the fanbases is minimal?

If I post a picture of the naked child running away from the fire in Veitnam will that be acceptable?

Only if you put a caption underneath, saying, "Don't you just love the smell of Napalm in the morning?".
