Lets not forget about the number 1 synthpop duo from America...Hall and Oates. From wiki: Critics Stephen Thomas Erlewine and J. Scott McClintock write,[1] "at their best, [Hall & Oates'] songs were filled with strong hooks and melodies that adhered to soul traditions without being a slave to them by incorporating elements of new wave and hard rock." Sounds like the boys having strong hooks and melodies that adhered to strong synth/dance traditions without being a slave to them by exploring side projects and different instrumentations.

Maybe Hall and Oates are a bit more famous in USA than PSB but I'm sure PSB are by far more famous than Hall and Oates. If PSB are not the most famous pop duo of all the time is just because of Wham! and Last Christmas.

The old “Erasure vs Pet Shop Boys” conversation is a little boring. They’re completely different.

My take is this though…

Erasure have the best “One Track”. The one that would get fans, casuals and non-fans up out of their seats, no matter who you are…and that track is “A little respect”. When that song starts, everyone erupts. It has a bigger effect than “It’s a sin”, “Always on my mind” “Go West” etc…but…other than that, the Pet Shop Boys back catalogue and output is far superior (in my opinion).

Anyone disagree about the “A little respect” point? It is an absolute banger and seems very very very popular with all of the casual electro fans I’ve ever been with.

Pet Shop Boys are more famous almost everywhere than Erasure, that's why PSB are headlines of so many festivals and Erasure are not. For example, here in Spain Erasure are not known too much but almost everyone with more than 30 years old know who are PSB. We watch their old hits every year on New Year's Eve in a show called Cachitos and people remember them

Just had a listen and was expecting to hear I song I knew without knowing its name, but sorry never heard this one at all.

In Australia their Take A Chance On Me cover got some plays at hens parties.
